NM Andy SoJ Droprate

Ah my man.

I’ve had enough time to level 12 toons to 90, to find 2 Griffons, 14 high runes between Ohm and Jah, 7 Maras, a Mang Song Lesson and a Death’s Web, and make over 60 torches from scratch…
and still no SoJ.

There is a curse that has been placed on that very item, swear to god.

I dropped a soj with lvl 34, while running through prison lvl 1 at nightmare difficulty.

I have run at least 2000+ Hell Andy/Meph runs so far. I have only gotten 1 SoJ and 1 Tal’s ammy. Interestingly enough, I’ve really been looking for a Homunculous for my necro, and even though with my MF level I should have a 1:800 roughly chance for it to drop from either, I have not had any drop for me. Just a bad streak of luck.

I had to trade for the one my summoner is currently using.

RNG is a fickel thing and you can go on amazing runs of luck or really bad streaks in this game. I find that if you’re farming any area/boss looking for something specific, you’re invariably going to be disappointed. Rather I focus on farming what seems enjoyable / targeted areas for certain class of items, and take whatever I can get from RNGesus. That has led to some “oh now I can think about making X build or Y character” moments which while it may not be exactly what you were hoping for, it does expand the possibilities and scope of what you can do end-game wise in D2R.

If you try to farm soj, do it on NM andy, she has the best chance to drop it

my brother found one off norm andy. its there… not trying to sound like a d i ck but 87% is not 100%

I have been playing D2 and D2LOD since the orig release. I still have not found a single SOJ. There are also YouTube videos (pre D2R) of hundreds of unique rings being ID’d and no SOJ’s… so it is not a new thing. 1/31 if a unique ring is dropped, probably 1 in 2000 on top of that to even drop a ring, then blue, then set, then unique, so the odds are astronomically low.

I think your brother is messing with you, lol. Norm Andy doesn’t have SoJ on her drop table. Only bosses in normal that can drop it are Baal, Diablo, and Nihlathak.

You only need to start to worry when you killed her like 7-14k and not getting the ring.

That’s when you feel unlucky. You’re just being tricked by the ring odds not her odds itself, that would be roughly 2-5k range depending on your mf.

There are more sources but mostly are between act5 normal and act3 nightmare. Mine I got on baal minions by example with way less odds but I done several runs solo on it.

My advice, if you need also other stuff do a content that could help you in several ways, not just farm specific thing. Because at end of the day not always the odds are in your favor so getting one or more of the stuff you need it’s better to spending time in something that eventually will be dropped if you keep doing those stuff that can be useful to you.

It’s not a race, it’s a marathon. Manage what you need and focus on the content that could drop most of what you need. More foes to beat it’s better btw.

Hmm, I would say unlucky.

Playing off and on for 20 years, I’ve never once found a SOJ from a drop. I did gamble one though.

If all you want is soj then yes NM Andy is the best, but watch Dbrunski’s vid and he explains why target farming isn’t really the best go-to and how you’re really hurting yourself by only trying for one thing. You could have been getting other drops that hell Andy could have given you. Also RNG is RNG. If you think this gameplay is work then this probably isn’t the game for you and another ARPG might be.

Dbrunski vid title: I did 2205 Nightmare Andariel Runs for 100 Unique Rings - Was it worth it?.. Diablo 2

Welcome to the grind that has been diablo 2 for over 20 years. If you’re the type of person that requires instant gratification in order to push forward, D2 is definitely not the game for you. Additionally, your sample size is very small.

This game’s RNG is truly broken.

I have the same issue with homunculus, pretty much have most uniques drop except homunculus until a few weeks ago where I got 4 of them in a single week.

Nice, still haven’t gotten SOJ from gambling only ravens. Have gotten about 6 unique amulets from gambling though.

Yep, I’ve yet to see an SOJ from anywhere, but in the course of about a week I found an Um, Vex, Ohm, Ist, and several Puls from Hell Cows.

RNG is crazy.

Andy NM is not a fun farm. And just saying from my experience, i got 3x SoJ to drop doing regular Hell Farming. Mephisto, Travs and Baal, the lucky spots for me. I never had what i was looking for when i was looking for. The MF Calc allways trolling people.

its normal. I try to found soj with so many rings from hell, but fount only after 3 months.

I’m not 100% sure where you got 1/31. Ultimately though, this is a Gambler’s Fallacy.

As I understand it, NM Andy has a 1:3813 chance to drop a SOJ.
Nagel and Manald are 1:255.

https://dropcalc.silospen.com/item.php

I’ll take it at face value, that this all maths out to 1:31 rings dropped from Andy are SOJs.

Reading this as “every 31 rings I’m guaranteed an SOJ” or “Every 3813 kills I’ll get an SOJ” is not correct.

That is the likely hood or average based on data from many users across many kills and several years.

How these numbers should be read, when you Kill andy for the 1st time, or the 10,000th time. You have a 1:3813 chance she will drop an SOJ.

Or if you’re IDing your first, or 100th Uni ring from NM Andy, each ring has a 1:31 chance of being a SOJ.

The data is just saying if you extrapolate the numbers out far enough, the numbers will eventually average out to something close to that data.

TLDR: the same conclusion you initially came too earlier in your post, bad luck. In that same token, you could totally kill Andy and get 2 SOJs in a row. Every Ring your ID from NM andy is a 1:31 chance, every kill is a 1 in 3813 chance. Best of luck to you.

Out of the noteworthy items I’ve found, a list that includes 2 HoZ, 2 Oculi, Tal Rasha Armour and Amulet, 2 SoJ, BK ring, Windforce, Arachs, 2 Maras and eth Titans, there’s only one thing they have in common: Exactly none of them dropped from the monster that was listed by the drop calculator sites as the one “most likely” to drop it. About half of them fell from random white enemies in fact.

The point here is this. You can do the math and get probabilities, but with the very valuable items you’re still dealing with pretty low chances, which means that no matter how hard you farm, chances are your efforts won’t produce the item you’re farming for, and that when the item does drop it’ll be from some random mob during a run where you weren’t even thinking about it and doing something completely different, just because of the sheer volume of things there are in this game, and the different ways that different items can drop.

Which brings me to my conclusion: the best way to give yourself the best chance to get your SoJ (or any other item) is actually not to improve the efficiency of your farming. It’s to find a way to play this game that’s fun to you, and stick to it, maybe switching it up every now and then so it doesn’t get repetitive. Whenever I settle down for a session, I do so with the expectation of nothing more than a fun hour or so. That way, the enjoyment of the game itself will keep you going and the items that accrue along the way will be a bonus. And because you’re having a good time, you’ll stay engaged with the game longer, which means you’ll find more stuff over time. On the other hand, if you’re doing repetitive farming and your satisfaction is dependent on whether you find anything, that’s just a recipe for burnout.

TL;DR - Unless you’re doing something absurd like farming for Tyrael’s Might, the most practical and sustainable way to get any item in the game is actually to not specifically be farming for it and just play the game for fun.

1/31 is determined from ratio of SoJ compared to other rings via the diablo wiki:

diablo.fandom. com/wiki/List_of_Unique_Rings_(Diablo_II)

The ratio for unique rings is: Nagel (15:59), Manald (15:59), and SoJ (1:59) - yet when farming nightmare andariel, specifically, none of the other rings can drop so the 59 from those ratios are assumed to be 31 (15 + 15 + 1). This 1:31 ratio is not just an assumption I’ve manufactured. If you google a bit you’ll find plenty of examples in guides that reference this ratio.

forums.d2jsp. org/topic.php?t=27012661

Also, nobody that read my initial post should should have come to the conclusion (although many of the subsequent posters seem to have done just that) that I thought I was guaranteed to get a SoJ after 31 rings identified. That’s not how probability works.

I’ve farmed 62 rings from nightmare andy, and upon id’ing them all I got 0 SoJ. For any group of individuals that id 62 unique rings from nightmare andy, roughly 15% of them will receive 0 SoJ.

Unfortunately I fell into that 15%.
