New player here, my game dc when fighting izual *Duriel

Hi folks, its my first playthrough the game and i finnaly found izuals in the tomb after putting the staff in the thingy…so i enter the tomb and start the fight and 10 seconds in i get disconnected… what happens now? i no longer have the staff, do I just go back to the moon tomb and expect it to be open? Im regretting playing my first walkthrough in online not offline, but it is what it is. If i have to redo the staff quests ill probs jsut quit and call it gg for this game.

Next game I think a different symbol will show, but it could be the same. I think the cave stays open. Make sure to put a TP down once you enter. I’m assuming you’re talking about Duriel though, and not Izual.

hey thanks for reply.what symbol am i looking for? im just entering every cave and searching it till i find the area where u the staff was put in?

Press ‘Q’ to bring up the quests and look at the last one in Act 2. It should tell you symbol.

I’m not entirely sure how the mechanic works as this situation is a bit niche. I think if you’ve already done the Horazon’s Journal part before (you have) that you might need to brute force which tomb it is in. Now, I think there is a trick you could use, but it probably isn’t worth your time as the TOMBs are good XP and farm. You could try looking at your quest log again, but I think that information only works once. Again I’m not sure if that works, but clearing all the tombs is fine if you cannot find the info.

thanks dizzy, i just realised the symbol is in the quest log, found the correct tomb, and can confirm the tomb entrance is tstill there! no need to farm the staff again! here goes! im stocking up on pots and going for the kill!!! much appreciated for your help

Remember too, you’re early on your adventure. Even if you had to remake the staff, while not optimal, you’re going to have to eventually repeat areas over and over anyway.

Also you can overstock thawing and antidote potions I believe against duriel if needed. And that always remember to open a TP pretty much anywhere there might be an issue, outside of ancients because they reset if you do that. Good luck brother.

normal mode, 23 sorc, followed a guide on maxroll…i can bvarely even get to my corpse to pick up my gear before i get 2 shot. its absolutely retarded.

Don’t feel bad. Duriel in Normal gets a lot of people when they’re new. It’s probably the hardest fight for a sorceress in Normal. There are ways you can learn around it. I can help you in about an hour if you like. I can also give you some gold and such to get you going again.

If you want you continue on yourself, I would suggest:

  1. Farm some gold to get tour merc back as a short lived shield.
  2. Gaining a couple of levels may help, especially if you don’t have high enough static field.
  3. Thawing potions from the vendor will boost your cold resistance for 30 seconds per potion consumed. Make sure you take a bunch, and give them to your merc as well.
  4. If the guide hasn’t mentioned, you want to use static field to lower Duriel’s HP substantially. If you can get three or four casts off before your merc dies, it will really help.
  5. Teleport will help you get away, but cost a lot of mana. Make sure you have potions. Once his HP is low from static field, you should be able to attack and teleport away, then repeat.

Don’t give up. It’ll be worth it. :grinning:

Hey thanks again for the reply.

I took 15 min break to calm my nerves (lol) and im back in the dung.

Iv remapped my controls and thought i would just grind another level or two and reattempt.

the gold grind is rough though, but fair.

I would definetly be keen to coop sometime, but being my first ever playthrough, I want to defeat the game on my own first (at least the first level of difficulty)

Sorry me and the other guy with the assassin logo are both victims of the username generation that Blizzard gives us. We are separate people.

Good to take a break. Also remember in this game you can make it very far to where you’re not leveled enough to handle. You can also be under-geared and you can even be stuck in terms of not really being able to easily get past certain obstacles if you skill your charcter the wrong way.

Also when playing by yourself there is nobody else who can hold the targets interest so all mistakes will be heavily punished.

Static is a great ability against high HP monsters.
Teleport is great for emergency repositioning at the begining of the game.
Potting will help a lot, but maybe you need to farm andy for a little while to get some levels and gear on you.
I’m not sure which type of sorc you made, what abilities are you using?
As for gold, go back and farm the pit for a run or andy and sell off all the magic and bases you can. Make sure to identify the items before selling I think.
If you’re playing on a controller this game COULD be clunky and harder to manage if that is what you meant by remapping. It makes the fast decisions you need to make slower as I don’t think the controller setups are optimized.

yeah i jsut failed on my second batch of attemps. no gold left lol
lim using the maxroll.gg/d2/guides/sorceress-leveling build. but i spent a few too much on stength accidently.

lvl 23 sorc
21 strength
32 dex
99 vit
35 energy.
nova damage 85-135

gear is tir tir helm , stealth taleth chest, wep is a 2hander called serpent lord. rest is garbage.

using keybaord and mouse, it feels a little odd sometimes, havent entirel;y gotten used to the ability swap and pot drink spam, esp with teleport, .

Okay, so this is a bit weird of a build. Though I’ve never been narrowly focused during my runs. The difference with nova when compared to other abilities a sorc has is that it is a very small range of affect. So you’re going to get hit. Just make sure to keep creating space when your mana is running low or your health. Then try again. Remember you need to static early which should get him below like 50% or less health already (not sure exactly the percent). After that you’re just going to have to play the keep away game. Boots with FRW will help you create some distance if you have them. Also if you wind up frozen you’ll lose move speed so you need to teleport away. Nova as a whole is a pretty good ability, but it does specifically have issues with boss fights. This is where you’re going to need to outplay the boss to make up for that difference. I don’t think there is a merc setup that helps you currently, though you could hook up an A2 merc and see how that goes.

Your str waste is okay, you’ll need some later and you’ll probably wind up respecing later anyways. Out of curiosity, you’re not trying to hit duriel with your staff right? You should only be using static and then nova.

ok we did it lads! we made it into act 3 after destroying the evil duriel!

Good job. Sorceress is probably the hardest character to play the game as a noob, because she’s very fragile. Nova sorc specifically is the most Glass Cannon build in the game - she survives by stunning enemies before she’s stunned, but you’re not gonna stun bosses. For bosses, she has to use frost nova (to slow them) and static field (deals a lot more damage than Nova), and only finish them off with nova when they have a sliver of HP left.

I read that you’ve stacked thawing potions (which each give +50 cold resist for 30 seconds), but also for next time - also buy some + cold resist belt or gloves or boots (reset shops inventory by leaving and entering the town). There’s no way you’ll get 2-shot by duriel at 85 cold resist and 240 life, you’ll probably survive 7 hits.
