New player help!

So I’ve played Diablo 3 for a very very long time. Coming to Diablo 2 I feel completely lost and confused lolol is there any advice or websites or guides to help me? Like leveling up I see you can put points into different subclasses and all that I feel very overwhelmed. Any help is appreciated!!!

Arreat Summit is probably the best place for new players.
It is an old database for LoD. (So things that say Ladder only for runewords you can ignore). It is well put together, and gives a lot of useful info at a click.

Planet Diablo also has things like attack speed calculators (for wereforms as well), cast rates, etc.

With those two alone, you can get most of what you will need to know for quite awhile.

(sorry the links aren’t clickable you can thanks blizzard’s stupid forum migration from taking away my level 3)

Oh cool thanks guys! I started a few different classes and realized I was dealing with a completely different animal then Diablo 3 and was like I have no idea what I’m doing lolol. Thanks again!

simplified for you

High Runes Farm spots
Trav > Dur 3(Trav guys),kill Meph and loot the chest that was behind him while your in that area too > Chaos Sanc

Uniques Farm spots
Chaos Sanc > Ancients Tunnel located at Lost City in Act 2//Act 1 Pit in Tamoe Highland) > Worldstone Keep//Throne

Keys farm spots
Countess(T key), Summoner(H Key), Nilathak(D Key)
Countess is located in the tower lowest floor(Black Marsh Wp in Act 1)
Summoner is located in the Arcane Sanctuary in Act 2
Nilathak is located in hall of Vaught in Act 5(use Hall of Pain Wp)

Keys are for opening Portals to super powered up Act Bosses…do not open those portals without fishing good information//being decently prepare otherwise they will mop the floor with you easily
Reward for it ? +3 Skill to a random Class…10-20 all stats…10-20 all resist Large Charm…totaly worth it…even if you get 1 not for your class it still outclass any regular charm you could ever find

lvling areas
1-5 den of evil + walking to stony field waypoint
5-15 Tristam runs rooms(4X faster to lvl than playing on your own)
15-20 Tomb Runs
20-25 Cows runs(if you can find a room with a high lvl carrying…otheriwise…)
20-25 Tomb Runs
25-50 Baal Runs(no harm into fishing skill points once you hit 40 by getting rushed trough nightmare and hell)…mean you can continue lvling with more powa at your disposal afterward)
50-75 Nightmare difficulty Baal Runs
75-99 Hell difficulty Chaos Sanc Runs(non-lazy player way)
75-99 Hell difficulty Baal Runs(lazy player way)

Class recommendation
Blizz Sorc(Blizz main skill, 10 point Cold Mastery, max Blizz Synergy after spending 20 points into Blizz and 10 into Cold Mastery)

Lightning Sorc(build up Bolts level untill can start lvling up “Lightning”,add points into Lightning Mastery as soon as possible…for every 4 points in Lightning, add 1 point to Lightning Mastery, finish maximing the Mastery after Lightning is maxed…afterward level up Chain Lightning Synergy, then Bolt Synergy, and lastly “Nova Synergy”

for both sorc build add 1 point to “Warmth at lvl 11” and at lvl 16 use your next 2 lvl up points to get teleport

Hammerdin Paladin
this build have a lvl up route build and a end-game build
the lvling up route: lvl 1-17 SAVE UP ALL your skill points…however…do put 1 points into skills that will unlock 'Blessed Hammer and Conviction Aura"
you also want the “Concentration Aura active for lvl 18-29”…but keep it at lvl 1 during the lvling process…its the main skill to boost Blessed hammer Damages but you dont wanna work on that during the lvling process
put all your points into into Blessed hammer from 18 to 37…do NOT work on Blessed hammer Synergies untill Blessed Hammer and Conviction are maxed out…so why max out Conviction if Concentration is Blessed Hammer big boost Aura ?..while leveling…that Conviction aura will boost ALL of your elemental dmg teamate by like 400%(so basicly you make a lot of your allies hit like a truck while you group play) and if there another hammerdin in the group they can use the Concentration aura while your Conviction Aura is active…so not only would you get full hammer boost this way…but you get to buff all ur Elemental teamates on top of that

when should you stop using the Conviction Aura ? lvl 85-90…when your rdy to farm for your own gear at lvl 85+ onward…when your rdy to farm your own stuff…go visit Akara to reset all your skill points and stats so that you can re-allocate them where they should normally go…that mean NOT GETTING the Conviction aura back

those 3 are the top 3 choices for non-ladder…if you play Ladder…hammerdin as your main char is almost mandatory cause you have to host your own leveling room if your a non-casual…if your a casual u might wanna consider sorc and get carried by active players that went hammerdin pally to carry lvling room when everyone is undergeared

lesser performing classes but still viable… trap assassin…bowazon…Lightning javazon…tornado druid

forget barbarian though…Barbarian is like carrying a 20 ton stone on your back without gear fed to them and they’re also inefficient gear farmer even with solid gear(they’re decent runes farmer however once they got enigma) shouting find items on the dead trav guys leaders is neat
Necromancer are in a similar situation…they have it better than the barb early on…but end game they’re only rly great at boss killing//pvp…not farming

i heavyly recommend you Blizz sorc for efficient farming on fresh non-ladder(has it easier than Light sorc for hell difficulty farming…especially for full rooms)…at least untill a Light Sorc get their hand on Infinity for their merc…as for Ladder it depend weither your casual or active on weither to go Hammerdin or Blizz Sorc

Hahahaha thank you very much!

Hi, just an advice among others: try things by yourself, just play the game, put points as you like, play as you feel, follow your own fun.

At least try to finish normal without reading guides. You might then try another class, etc.
Then getting into nightmare difficulty at some point you hit a wall. That’s when you’ll need to get deeper into game knowledge, specs builds, items, etc.

In short, play the game

err forgot to mention something…at some point you will need either a Smiter or Kicker to do early ubers…+ a barb friend for their Battle order if you didn’t get lucky to find an experienced player to help ya out

that be your secondary char to handle Ubers
those 2 builds are easy to deck out early…but will need either CTA runeword to survive or a barb itself boosting your health bar
Kickers asn have cheaper gear needed to perform well but has a much smaller health pool than smiters paladin due to more dex required to get max block so they may need a health booster unlike paladin to assist them out
