New Barbarian Passives

So melee splash is pretty overpowered in the mods but at the same time I don’t think it’s fun to play even a decked out melee character killing 1 monster at a time when an AoE character can kill entire packs.

Adding weapon effects to each weapon mastery can be similar to melee splash but not as OP.

For example:

Blade Mastery: X% Chance on hit to cleave in a 90 degree arc in front of you.

Mace Mastery: X% Chance on hit to smash the ground in a small circle around the character.

Polearm Mastery: X% Chance on hit to to cleave in a larger arc than blade mastery with a slight damage boost.

Axe Mastery: X% Chance on hit to throw your axe which ricochets to 5 additional enemies.

Spear Mastery: X% Chance on hit to cleave in a larger arc than blade mastery with a slight damage boost.

So in order to get some AoE but nothing as good as an actual AoE character, you must spend points. Imagine a whirlwind/axe combo and you are whirlwinding while shooting out axes? Or leap attacking with a mace and it sends a shockwave around you sort of like earthquake barb in D3 but not as overpowered.

Just throwing the idea out there.

Why are barbarian players dead set on having 5 skills that all do the same thing? Merge the weapon masteries into one skill so that there’s only melee specialization and throwing specialization. Cleaving/splash damage needs to be added to melee skills in general.

Nah

Melee suffers as a whole

splash shouldn’t be gated behind a class

Splash should be behind a mechanic

Personally: I would remove all crushing blow sources and replace them with chance to splash

But realistically: splash should be a byproduct of Knockback

Knockback is bad for melee, but giving it splash you make it desired, but at a cost

It would fix skills like Bash which is 100% Kb. Would make it 100% splash as well

I would be fine with splash dmg but only for frenzy, fury, fend and zeal. So skills that kinda do aoe but in reality they’re bad for pvm. No reason to have charged strike, berserk with aoe

Agreed, barbarian is in obvious need of help.

Any special weapon-class-type-modifiers would be great, but they should also fall under a single weapons mastery that is a combination of all masteries, so barbarian, the weaponS Master, can choose which type of weapon class they prefer to use, including mix and match, without restat.

Hot take: Barbarian attacks should deal AOE splash when they overkill their target based on how much excess damage was dealt.

Sorry but that has to be the most illogical thing I’ve read on these forums, and this forum Got omnipwn and Revenant lol

Why give aoe to skills that already have a multiple target theme

And prevent single target from getting that perk, keeping them even more dog water in comparison lol

because they have the “aoe” that is scuffed. sorry I don’t want to see smiter/zerker/meele zon with splash dmg. would be broken af. if blizzard buffed skills that are supposed to be AoE the way so they’d have real aoe, that would be something. These skills is “aoe” that is not an aoe, just random single target from the crowd and that fact makes them unplayable. By fixing this small issue, all physical classes would have an alternative.

Why would it be broken?

  • Crushing blow doesn’t travel through splash

  • only physical damage travel through splash

  • physical melee zon is already garbage tier

because you can have insane dmg if you build around it.

and btw. every class has potential to have good AoE. no reason to make PD2 from D2R by making every skill viable. there are builds that have good aoe and builds that have good single target. no reason to change that
