My Issue With High Repair Costs on Superior Runeword Bases

Before starting, I congratulate the D2R team on their solid work with terror zones. This system has breathed new life into the game.

I am aware that established players with a lot of gold generation or big stacks of Ral runes for repairing via cube do not care about this or are willing to accept the tradeoff.

Here is the scenario:

  1. I recently made my first ever Fortitude runeword armor using a superior item base, wanting to use the best base I could find

  2. This armor is intended for use on a barbarian and wolf druid, who take a lot of durability loss, especially barbarian with berserk (0 def)

  3. I find out that using this armor incurs astronomical repair costs - playing for less than an hour cost me about 1 million gold in repairs on this single armor piece

I am aware that repair costs for superior bases are much less of an issue on a bowazon or other characters not getting hit often.

My issue with these costs is there is no in-game warning or reasonable way to learn about them before investing a hard earned high rune.

Why would a superior item be vastly more expensive to repair? Shouldn’t an item with increased durability be more…durable? The current way things work feels like a bug, and is insanely out of step with other repair costs experienced by the player through hundreds of hours.

I propose that these costs be either re-balanced or warned about with an in-game tooltip so players can understand and opt into the increased upkeep. Thanks for reading.

Ral rune + item to be repaired
Transmute in cube. Problem solved without spending gold. Ral rune can be farmed on normal countess.

Yes, as I wrote though I am aware of this workaround and it’s not fun and surely not a good mechanic ( I appreciate the attempt to help though Camper). I would rather give the item to a merc, spend the Rals on crafting amulets, and find another Lo Rune than pay this oppressive upkeep cost.

I am willing to pay the gold if I get to see Larzuk with a jewel studded apron with the 1mil gold per hour I’m paying him.

I highly doubt you can farm perfect amethysts faster than the rate you farm ral rune.

Gold with the D2R modification just made it even faster to collect, as it’s just hovering over it and it’s practically a will feature of the game.

And for these reasons I doubt that you will receive any kind of attention in this demand, however fair it may be.

I actually wasn’t aware of this, I just assumed my runewords were super costly because of all the stat mods.

…. What’s the cost of repairing a non superior fortitude?

Yes superior item cost ALOT more … I usually go sup for pvp or if i plan to sell the piece after a while or play as a ranged, Usually avoid it on melee if it just for pve.

I might agree with you here.
Very interesting, I have to try it for my self to see the difference. I have never really noticed it.

The price you pay to be “lete” with your “lete” gear. AT least you get to “measure” while comparing, lmfao!!!

I personally get through the game with modest ease using sets and rares. I have no need to “measure”, lol.

It’s called planning. You look at list of runewords, set items, crafting, etc … and then you plan on how to gear your character to meet the needs of beating the game. You don’t need all of that crap, seriously.

I have proven for years now that you don’t need overpowered runewords like enigma or mosaic, etc … And I excel better than most that feel the need to “measure”!

The “lete” stuff is geared for bots and is economy driven based on botting and/or the facade of vanity. And you are playing right into their hands.

Do yourself a favor, save time, trouble, cash, etc … read, research, and plan. You’d be surprised at how these “antiquated” techniques really pay off, lmao!

Simple little things like adding as Um rune to set helm/armor/shield could improve your res’ to the point where your damage can be minimalized. Go figure, right?

I am “assuming” that you do know how to read, eh?

A good source to start [has been around for decades]: The Arreat Summit

Tons and tons of information right at your fingertips for you to simply read and comprehend. You’d be amazed what you can learn from reading vs rumor.

Don’t be a lemming, be original.

***BTW, The Arreat Summit should be a whitelisted link for these forums. It is after all a very approved source of information backed by blizzard.

This is something I would actually vote to change.
I could understand double the cost… but if we’re going from like 5k, to 927k… why?
Punish us because we had the patience to hold out for a better base?
And it’s not even much better. 10 more durability points… 50 extra armor.

This is just silly…
