Please Blizzard, reconsider allowing offline multiplayer so mods can be played with friends. My modded single player run made this game perfect and would love to experience it with my friends. Surely there must be some compromise that can be done to make this happen.
With how quickly the first beta was hacked and pirated, don’t expect this to ever happen. Blizzard wants to keep a firm grip on its IP, which is understandable.
I’ve heard there is something in the works to mod the original game to utilize D2:R graphic resources, which could take a while. I have no idea how far along it is, or even where it is located.

But it aint tho. They are fully convinced that allowing people to play together offline together will cause everyone to pirate their game and go play a mod that is a better version. They will never back down on this.
Would be awesome, but like TDJ said Blizz is never going to allow multiplayer modding in D2R in any official capacity after the Tech Alpha debacle. There are unofficial workarounds that are happening, just gotta wait for those unfortunately.
It was from some people at the Phrozen Keep, but that project has been going on for years now (started 2018 I think, it was a project for original D2 but they said they’d add functionality to run D2R assets on original D2 [they wouldn’t provide any assets of course, you’d still need to buy D2R]) and it’s still nowhere near to releasing. Probably won’t see anything for a long time.
at this point that wouldn’t be hard, you just have to take out their additions and BAM. better game.
Exactly that is why they don’t want the interface built in for people to play together. They’d lose so much if everyone switched over to a mod and when they eventually banned the botters that had no reason to purchase the game again because nobody plays.
Yup like I do actually like some of the concepts of what they were trying to do. Getting rid of the lame 99 grind and how long it took was a good thing, the way they went about it was bad. Getting rid of immunities or giving more access to ways to get past them was a good thing, sunders however are an awful charm. They FHR change wasn’t asked for, but was given not known what it would do.
ya i firmly believe they don’t really know how to handle what’s going on.
they should at least tweak things after adding them, this ONE AND DONE, method is absolutely awful. patch things, but then buff them, nerf them. make them not stupid… sigh…
They left a bunch of weak, unknowledgable devs in charge of a game that they were only supposed to copy/paste and improve graphics on. Sure there are some good additions, but all of the meta additions have been awful. Think of leaving the worst possible talent pool in charge of your game and this is the results. TZ is a bad way to deal with the lame 99 grind. Sunder charms are a bad way to deal with skill imblance and getting past immunities. The FHR change was unwanted and unneeded. Mosaic isn’t the way to fix MA sin being bad. Not to mention all the bots/hackers that are unchecked.
If you want to truly know how bad the devs who were left in charge were, just remember it took them 8 tries to fix traps working with -res and EVEN still it is bugged.
One and done would be fine if they actually listened to what good players wanted and executed it, put it on PTR and let them test it. And it isn’t as simple as hey we think the 99 grind is a bit lame and takes too long, then the devs rush out an idea to try and combat it. Respond with you’re creating TZ and exactly how you think they should work, then people can hit you back saying that will make the game an unorganized mess, perhaps you could just get rid of the XP decay after lvl 95 so we can keep baal running like the meta has been for 20 years. If you want to improve zones that people don’t currently farm perhaps you can just boost their level and drop possiblities. Then when the one and done patch drops it has already been thoroughly tested by people in the community and the dev team. But they’re not even smart enough to consider that the playerbase who has been playing the game for 20 years would have good ideas about the game.
ugh don’t even get me started on TZ. with a few minor tweaks, it could be insanely fun. and i’ve already posted my ideas plenty of times, if they haven’t read them AND implemented them by now, we’re doomed.
i still don’t understand how they add these things and never change them. AT ALL. like they somehow came up with the best idea on the first try and everyone loves it - which is not the case.
I myself already find TZ to be fun overall. Sure there are some bad zones, just go farm something else. My issue with TZ is on an XP grind and on a game list meta it is an AWFUL way to do things.
Baal/Chaos runs were/are good because they’re fairly organized and straight forward areas. In a TZ you got all sorts of directions and places to go. You wind up splitting XP/time. Beyond that you’ve now split a low player base game once again. 3 servers/NL/Ladder/Hardcore/Softcore/Singleplayer/TZ/NonTZ. Not only that but the gamelist generator already sucked, now you have all these awful options inbetween. And then don’t get me started on server issues. Can’t play USWEST games or Asia games that well, meanwhile back in the day I could play a SCBW game on iccup against a korean accross the world with very minimal ping, but on the US servers if someone is west coast hosting your game you can wind up lagging so bad you can’t tele properly.
the way TZ is randomized for an hour just kills it for me. that’s not fun, or intuitive. i was NEVER a fan of slamming baal and diablo over and over over and over…
my way would be to have in game switching TZ when elite mobs are cleared. that way i can stay in one game for a longer period of time, and not just slam 1 area… i get REALLY bored of that kind of playstyle. so much so that i only hit lvl 75 this season, but rolled a 20/20/9 anni…
I got you, you want variety and to be able to move the marker away from a good TZ. Seems cool cuz you could min max it like if the TZ was chaos, and the next rolled to sewers, you could just make ur next game. But honestly if what we’re doing is trying to give people all the options for variety in farm XP/Max quality drop chance. Why not just make the whole map TZ’d always? No randomness no guessing. You can decide to farm 1 area over and over or farm a certain set of areas or farm the entire map if you want.
But honestly to get rid of the 99 grind they should have just got rid of the XP loss. Let people farm where they want and still get XP.

it’s supposed to be a DIFFERENT way to reach 99, but as it stands, it’s a different LIGHT SPEED way to hit 99… i dunno… they really missed the mark with that one imo.
XP loss as in XP decay which neither are accurate. At some point when you outlevel the mobs you don’t get full XP is what I’m talking about. If they just got rid of it or lowered the penalty, then the 99 grind is fixed and nothing had to change. If then they wanted to thoroughly change a place in the game to either make it higher level and have better drops, then they could do that on a permanent basis rather than some weird TZ thing.
TZ were added to make the 99 grind easier, not as an alternative. Sure it functions as one, but IIRC they added it to make it easier, not to give variety. We got variety though alongside it, but their original task was to make the grind easier. And yeah it perhaps is too lightspeed, I honestly never saw the point though even now. Not worried about those extras levels. If I get it I get it, if I don’t well… I don’t really care
ah see i thought you’d mean like xp loss like when you die. and in softcore that does set people back a few hours at a time. if they aren’t careful.
but ya the xp decay WAS pretty brutal. but people STILL managed to hit 99… so it’s not like it was impossible.
and ya personally, the highest i’ve gotten every class is 98. the 5 stats and 1 skill never seemed worth it to me either.
People did ask for FHR changes because assassins were unbeatable without WSG, but the implementation was bad and pushed it too far into the other direction where offensive plays are much worse than they were pre 2.4.
XP penalty is what I will remember to call it I think. Decay sounds like you lose XP for not staying on the grind lol.
The comparison from TZ is like 80 hours to hit 99 to 150 hours to hit it normally. Both are fine I guess because I find 99 unappealing, but my issue is in a game that does have crazy RNG and takes a long time to build up to a near perfect char, the leveling shouldn’t be that crazy to hit 99. I get that it is doable, but it could even be much longer if you didn’t have a group that would feed you taking that 150 hours and making it much longer. Without anni/ondal solo XP and XP shrines, but splitting XP in baal room and fighting for NIH XP it just isn’t fair that it takes that long for such a tiny achievement that doesn’t pay that well.
Yes, WSG was the counter to your FHR check. You literally had something that cost nothing to counter it. Nobody cared who knew PvP because they knew about WSG. And then they poorly added in what they did which has affected the PvP players size by quite a bit.
