Mosaic is so bad that i need to kick that player out from party if they use it.
Meaning MA was no good. Meaning it needed fixing. Nobody is arguing that MA didn’t need fixing. The issue is….this is a very poor way to fix skills.
And you’re probably right about that second part. But that’s what most of us on here are to be fair lol. We know nobody is listening who can actually make changes.
So we come here, gripe, feel a little better…. and go back to farming.
Yeah I agree and I played assassin more than anything else, got to lvl 99 before 1.10 using phoenix strike with natalya’s set. It needed some love but you could make it work. Mosaic is indistinguishable from what you might expect from having hacked items get into the game. It’s dumb and needs to go, and it’s a bad sign with how Blizzard is gonna destroy this game with power creep. Diablo 3 went from normal/nightmare/hell/inferno to torment 16 getting speedfarmed and endless greater rift levels. They’re gonna do they same thing to Diablo 2 except in this case they’ll add some broken stuff to the game get bored of updating it and never touch it again.

I want to start by saying I’ve never played an assassin character. … But I just watched a build guide from a year ago.

You have an opinion, not even based on own playing experience, but you feel comfortable to ask for a NERF and state “Mosaic needs to go” and do meaningless comparisons with other classes.
If you seriously want to improve the MA playstyle, you have to test and try out, to see the drawbacks and to find ways to improve the playstyle.
Examples:
- Tiger Strike with Dragon Tail was a fantastic old combination before 1.10, which was killed by introducing immunity, as the mob needs to take both physical and fire to work.
- Charge up mechanics with fire, lightning, ice and phoenix was never great. You end up to use one charge up skill (typically lightning), while phoenix charge up (1,2,3) is unpredictable and cumbersome, due to miss rates. You cannot really see the charges coming and going in the heat of a fight. High difficulty with low reward (even with Natalya set) and compare this to any other class.
- Play with “one mosaic claw” (50%) for some some time, to get an impression how a 66% probability would feel. It sucks so much, is unpredictable and no fun.
- Have you tried the various finishing moves to see the impact? Actually “Dragon Talon” triggers with each kick (7/3/3/3/3/3 frames) the elemental effects, which causes the visual noise and is part of the problem. Dragon Claw/Flight causes it only once (same with Dragon Tail)!
- Ramping up multiple charges takes time.
- Have you compared the total clear times of CS with other classes like Lightning Amazon, Paladin Hammer / FOH, … ?
What to change? - If at all !
I would give Mosaic a 100% Chance to keep the charges, but limit the number of different charge effects to a maximum of 3 out of 6 (Fire/Lightning/Ice/Phoenix/Tiger/Leech). Change Dragon Talon to trigger MA effects only once. But do not kill the existing dragon talon kickse builds, based on crushing blow and elementary damage (which was the only viable melee assassin the last 20 years).
This allows the player to take explicit and situational decisions and allows still flexible play combinations. Furthermore you can combine Mosaic with the Natalya Set and with other claws.
Mosaic isnt a major problem, but it does need a nerf. After all that epoleptic lightshow is really annoying and makes other assasin builds redundantly pointless. My suhgestion would leave it as is except remove the ability to refresh the charge stacks on hit. So you would have to rebuild the charges every 20 seconds. The build would still work but be less attractive overall
In 2.6 I appreciated Hustle weapon, but Mosaic is fun, but it’s -again- a cheating-like way of playing: you have access to infinite life and mana leach, all 3 elemental types plus physical damage, CB, no AR checks, aoe, … No thanks.
1 st issue: this play style is inside an item, and this is -again- PoE and D3 kind of stuff, not D2R.
You can move that property into the skill tab, but at the end it’s still the same as above: no one uses only 1 mosaic, 50% is not effective at all, so or you go up to 100% or nothing.
So here is my take:
- 1% to not consume a charge per hard point level in charge skills
- 1% to GAIN a charge per hard point level in claw mastery (that’s similar to what it’s for throw barb)
- every 10 hard points in claw mastery, you increases the amount of how many different charge you can NOT spend: at level 1 you get only 1, at 10 you get 2, at 20 you get 3, and you can’t go over than this (if you have 4 charges, the first charge is spent, the other 3 are not, with FIFO logic)
- AR check is back (sorry, it’s not a spell)
I agree it needs to go BUT they need to rework the whole charge mechanics with MA skills.
Mosaic basically proved the charge mechanics is not really working well.
what a shame, ive been playing d2 for as long as its been around, why in 20+ years did you hardly ever see an MA>? Unplayable …they were by far the weakest chr to play, this ladder i was playing hammerdin, got to NM and asked for a rush, guy came in with Mosaic sin, i liked what i saw, looked fun, the optics didnt bother me at all, got through NM easy and asked if i wanted a hell rush, i said heck ya…he breezed through, ya he was fully geared…not sure about skiller gc’s though, liked it so much, decided to make one myself and have been playing it since…im having a blast, i mostly play solo as i live in the country on satellite dish, so im behind a second or 2, i do follow baalruns now and then to level when im close… but i enjoy it…MA SIN no longer weakest chr
i feel that mosaic was a good idea but with poor implementation.
they should remove the " refreshes the expiration timer" portion of the runeword but keep the “chance to not consume charge”
- it will force you to actually manage your stacks and not just mindlessly click
- would also not create such a huge disparity between mosaic sins vs non-mosaic sins. the main benefit of mosaic would be that you don’t need to refresh your stack so often but the core game play of the MA sin would remain the same.
- just make the charges build-up on attack, not on hit, and it would solve like 90% of all MA problems in one go. and to keep it balanced reintroduce the chance to hit on finishers, so the core mechanic will not be building charges but spending them. I don’t know why is this so complicated that in +20 years no dev at blizz thought of it , especially since the community started suggesting this years ago.
personally i don’t like this idea of making everything overpowered until nothing is overpowered anymore
apologies if this suggestion has already been made but here is my idea:
add a “Martial Arts Mastery” skill to the skill tree. something like + dmg, but also a % chance to not consume charges. like is already on the Mosaic claw.
also reduce % chance on mosaic.
make it so even with two Mosaic claws + mastery at maximum level possible (50 ish or whatever), it is still only 90 to 95% (not sure on exact number, but you get the point).
edit: in case this gets actual company eyes on my post, i want to further explain that what they’ve done with Mosaic is put a completely new skill or function on an item. this is a first for the game as far as i’m aware. now if this was a conscious decision and/or an experiment in the wild, then cool. maybe this is how they decided best to expand player power and game depth. maybe they decide its too much and we’ll never see another item like it. it would be nice to hear a little peak into their roadmap to know what is the case.
Skill? dude assassin has lighting traps they are dump op. It takes zero skill to put a trap down so what is the difference in Mosaic?
Mosaic needs defeatly an balance hotfix
low budget 102 fcr setup rekks p8.
And build with multi elemental dmg included where sunder charms not really mandatory probably optional but dont need it.
And low budget i mean…really low budget. Amu can be 1,17 atleast fcr bp is reached.
Very Tanky, DMG is very strong, mobility even more perfect if fcr is high.
15 sec u have time to keep up charges so with higher fcr bp even way more better (forget the soj setup) not even full inv of skillers, probably 2-3…maybe nothing.
Its very rough with Assa Mosaic in group…and its not more funny to have one of them in a group.
Perfect for HC aswell…its frustrating actually to see that.
Nerf to destroy that build…NO…but an balance hotfix must be there…otherwise no fun really.
Yep, add to that massive full screen freezes for crowd control, and life and mana leech. This thing is a bad joke. A goofy fan mod that made it into the official game
It feels like with Mosaic, they looked to much in d3 and d4 with their insane dmg multipliers to lets say : hey lets make an OP dmg Build, i mean this can clear p512.
Think about that guys…its totally hillarious
I haaaate… the multipliers.
+5000% damage when afflicted with xyz
+15,000% damage etc etc.
ruined diablo 3 and 4 with this garbage
Mosaic is creeping in on diablo 2. It needs to go away, and nothing like that created again.
