Mods and online

So I have an offline character and tons of mods set up for offline only through a separate launcher for D2R.

If I launch if from bnet regularly will it keep the mods I installed through the separate shortcut? Do i have to wipe the game clean to start online or can I switch easily between the two based on the 2 launch methods?

EDIT:After some testing I found that if you launch the game with a different launch argument exe it wont allow you to select ONLINE in character screen which leads me to believe it just flags you as a modded client and allows you to play offline only.

Launching the game normally through bnet allows for online play but as people outside of the forum just told me it will still keep me flagged as a modded client and lead to a possible ban under ban waves but can be appealed and suspensions lifted if it comes to it as this is a fault of the automated system that both flags and limits your clients.

To anyone else that is curious, D2RMM is a mod loader/installer that requires a launch argument under D2R.exe under properties when installing it and having it load/make mods work. If this launch argument isn’t placed then the game runs and logs in as normal.

Simply make 2 exe’s and rename the other one to “Modded” or “D2RMM” and run it only when you want to play with mods. Then when you wanna play with a friend launch from bnet… That simple I guess. But we’ll see how soon I’m slapped with a ban though… This is truly sad.

you’ll need 2 different installs or you’ll need to remove the mods every time. i mean, only if you dont want to chance a ban.

From what I’ve researched from others with similar questions I found that if you remove the command line under the launcher and launch it normally, the mods don’t activate and you are free to play online characters… But I really want to be sure since everyone is talking like if I accidentally launch a modded version of the game online I’d get SWAT sent to my house to hose me down.

Thats why i mention I have 2 versions of the launch exe.

1 with the command line for D2RMM
The other left alone without it.

you’ll just get account tagged and it will sit their until blizzard does a ban sweep, if what you used is on their ban list at the time, only the most damaging mods are.

if your mods are not run at all when you use your second launcher, then you’re fine, but a lot of mods still run and just do not work on official servers. You’re disconnecting your ethernet completely when you play with mods right? “offline” is still online when it comes to D2R single player and Warden. To be honest, you’ve likely been tagged already, but like i said they have only banned for the really bad mods so far. I think the last time was a maphack that caught even offline players that didnt pull their cord.

That doesn’t make much sense… You can’t even launch the game if you have no net…

How do you play with mods if you do? Just to get a better idea what is possible here. I know mods are banned online but I am trying to explain that the mods don’t activate AT ALL past D2RMM launch lines in properties under a copy of the launch exe.

As in the mods don’t function or work if you don’t add that launch argument on the exe.

you have a lot to learn, young Padawan. you can launch directly from D2R.exe without an internet connection until 30 days have passed in which you’ll need to connect to Bnet again.

What you need is to run the game with two different paths.

For clean online non modded game run the game from your battle net launcher without -direct -txt parameter in additional command line arguments under Game setting:

But you can still use there for example -enablerespec without issues.

Now for you modded game you should create special file order where your D2R is installed. This is mine:

You have your modifications under Data, but you know that probably. Under “Mods” I have Json file called “modinfo” with this inside:

When I wanted to run my mod, I made shortcut of D2R.exe andI run it with parameter:

-enablerespec -mod expanded -txt

You absolutely CAN launch the game with no internet connection.
That’s the only way I play. (except for the 30-day reauthentication log-ins.)

Turn off your internet connection, or block your connection via firewall, before launching with your D2R.exe shortcut.
It will work.

If your friends told you otherwise, you need to get smarter friends.

I already stated I had 2 shortcuts made and have now tested.

that still triggers a connection and warden, this is why people have to pull the ethernet before running the game with any mods connected.

No it doesnt actualy, no need to turn off internet lol. You cant even log on server with this setting.

you say that but i guarantee you wont test that theory running a program that was recent caught in the last banwave.

if will connect unless you firewall or cut the cord.

If you mod game files, there is no running of any additional programs…

I am modding game since D2R was launched so is many others as I am part of D2R mod discords, nobody experience what you say. Nobody was banned.

offline maphackers were banned. because like you, they didnt understand that offline is still online.

if blizzard doesnt care about banning other mods like loot filters, then they dont care.

Offline maphackers got banned because said maphacks either interacted with the exe and/or game packets and got flagged.

You will never be banned for modding as long as you’re using authorized modding methods (no hardcoding or code injection) and as long as you don’t start an online game (like actually creating a game and joining it) with mods enabled.

Dude, its like you are not listening. I told you that modifing game is not using any programs. Why do you talk about maphack lol? Its not related. This is about modding, not about using hacks/programs.

that was just an example that offline isnt really offline unless you unplug.
