Mod (LAN/Multiplayer) = Ban?

Hi all
I want to try and play D2R with my wife but with a mod or two, we want to play together but there is no LAN option.

My question is …if we mod the game and I create a new game (bouth of us having the same mod) will it work ? Will we get banned ?

It works on single player but we really want to play together but not get banned also…

Thanks Blizzard for removing TCP/IP while providing rate limited and still absolute garbage service on bnet. Can’t even add /players command or ban RMT spam.

Yes, modding on bnet = ban.

I mean spamming gold sites is also apparently a ban, but that’s been going on for months solid so you’re probably fine

If its a mod that makes any meaningful changes it probably won’t work on bnet anyways.

I’m confused.
could you not create a private friends-only game with a password?
or are you more concerned about the ability to use mods online?
or is this more of a LAN request?

I think this is what the OP is trying to clarify.

Blizzard hasn’t yet confirmed support for mods on Battlenet, regardless of their availability on various websites.

I’d seriously doubt they’ll ever sign off for mods on Battlenet, either.

sorry friends I was out, yes I want to create a password game and play with my wife Moded D2R is it possible or we will be banned?

ah.

well you never know.
they may lean into mods eventually. as a way to expand the gameplay.

personally I think it’s foolish to not work with the mod developers these days. Although there’s a lot of red-tape involved when creating mods for console versions of games…

I imagine they’ll eventually land on having an open/closed Bnet like before. or perhaps something more modern like a mod workshop. depends on how many players would actually use it.

if the bottom-line is cost, why not utilize folks who make mods for free?

unfortunately, sometimes people use mods combined with private servers to offer a pay environment to players. this kind of thing breaks TOS. Can’t offer a service on-top of the game without clearing it. this is just one example of the issues that need to be considered

IMO, I think there should be true distinction of what’s considered “competitive” gameplay, and what’s considered “cooperative” gameplay. Because really, that’s the crux of the matter when it comes to every single feature argument people are debating.

Some elements are supposed to be “competitive”, and rules/mechanics should be clearly defined for those games thus. Then you have the “cooperative” side, where rules/mechanics may be relaxed, allowing for a less competitive atmosphere.

The problem is, every developer out there wants to make the Holy Grail of Gaming where the two elements are married and “Everyone Lives Happily Ever After”… and the two elements are truly mutually exclusive.

Personally, I’m not at all against “modding”- but there needs to be clear definition on what is allowable, and what isn’t when you’ve got combined elements in a game, unless it’s been introduced from the release. Otherwise, it’s like saying the game of Chess needs to allow Bishops to move as Queens do just because you’re playing for “fun”, when some still play to be “rated”. And that brings us to the differences in Ladder vs Online (regular) play, etc. as an example.

Just for fun, try asking yourself these simple questions honestly whenever you see a “feature request” being suggested…

  • How will this affect cooperative gameplay? (i.e., those who play for “fun”)
(mess around with friends/family, killing time, “casual” gameplay, etc.)
  • How will this affect competitive gameplay? (i.e., those who play to “compete”)
    (trade, economy, PvP, Ladder, etc.)

Then ask yourself again why such “features” haven’t been enabled in the game. It will give you a bit more clarity in perspective and perception when approaching some of the debates going on. Not just here, but in ANY game.

still no answer to my question…

If it even works on Battle.Net (and that’s a big IF), you could be liable for account action (suspension or ban) yes.

If you’re waiting for an answer from Blizzard I wouldn’t hold my breath.

They’re probably not going to give a direct answer on this one because they’re afraid of the backlash.

I just want to know if I can play online with my wife moded version only the 2 of us without getting banned

Terms of Service says no.

That’s the answer, it’s against the rules and you can be banned.

Will you actually get banned? No one knows.

You can keep asking the same question, but the reality is no one can answer that question. Blizzard refuses to and they outlined their game plan for everyone. Their first concern is the server issues hence the PTR that’s going up next month. After that gets tested they are willing to discuss ladder and ‘‘other changes’’ no one knows what that means either. To date they have allowed 0 mods for D2R on or offline. That’s where we’re at.

Mods that change the gameplay will not work on Battle.net as they are local (your computer only) mods. Battle.net does checks to make sure all of your game’s core files are unmodified and match what they have on the server’s database prior to logging in. If they do not match, you’re barred from the ability to log into Battle.net.

Mods that change interface elements may work but you will absolutely either be temp or perma banned for them as mods aren’t allowed on Battle.net, period.

The TL;DR of this post is;

No, you cannot use mods on Battle.net. Wait for a mod to come out that re-enables TCP/IP, or for Blizzard to add some new functionality to allow modders to flourish.
It sucks, I know, but thems the breaks.

Ty for the answer, can I be offline on battlenet and play on offline with mod ? Then delete the mod when I want to play online again ?

Mod the game how exactly? What is changed?

want to play this mod with my wife
