I observe that games with an active mod community last much longer.
I understand there are security concerns.
Having a place where gamers can showcase creativity can lead to some pretty astounding changes in the world of gaming. Steam has this in spades. Does Blizzard want to be left out in the cold?
Short answer seems to be yes they do. Which is superlame
Blizzards does better when its chilled, cold, or otherwise subzero with snow since that’s basically the definition.
So, umm, “Does Blizzard want to be left out in the cold?” – Yes. Or they melt.
Well the initial statement was that they want to support modding.
Recent removal of TCP/IP is definitely a kick in the guts for modding though. There is also no mention of tools or limits. They showed they will formally action hackers but what is the difference between a hacker and a modder? It’s a fine line in many cases.
yea it seems to be the case
They just have to make modding convenient. This will greatly help d2r, in the sense that more people will buy the game if they find out that the game will be able to play with modifications. Yes, I myself would occasionally play in them. It’s fun. Blizzard, VV, PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THE MODDING! Of course, this will probably not appear immediately in the release, but this is a very important task, I think.
Why do you say that, some one already cracked the game, you will be able to just put it back, regardless of what they do. They don’t have time to figure out how to stop that, the game runs like dog garbage, it will be the only thing they work on. Some one will put the tcp ip back, and you will get mods. I’m sure if you looked now there probably already is a version you could download with tcp ip back in it.
Yep for some games mods make it last longer. Diablo 2 would last longer if they secured the code, banned all bots and hackers. Updated it, added a cash shop, balanced the pvp, and fixed all bugs, that isn’t what they are going to do. So rest assured I’m sure since its cracked already you can get tcp ip back. If it’s hard to find now just wait a little, blizzard isn’t gonna pay attention after like a week of the game being out.
I wish they would stop all cheats, bots, and cracks, but it’s just not gonna happen. They don’t have any motive to do it, it’s not gonna make profit, it would just help us people who want a cheat free competitive game.
Just make sure you own the game, so they can’t say anything.
Amazing, the unrealistic combined with greedy mechanics. That is a wondrous paragraph of hubris deficiency.
Secured the code - unrealistic.
Banned all bots and hackers - is this stand-up comedy? How?
Added a cash shop - oh boy inevitable level boosts and p2w options. It’ll be coming down the pipe just like they did WoW.
Balanced the PvP - in a game that wasn’t designed around PvP, this is also unrealistic. Someone will always claim imbalance. You’d have better luck with the bots.
Fixed all the bugs - Yeah, it’s nice to expect them to do something hardly any developer has managed to do since the dawn of time.
This list won’t make D2R last longer because they’re either ultimately harmful or entirely unrealistic.
Kudos to you.
They aren’t unrealistic, what they are is not profitable enough for a pump and dump nostalgia game. What I suggested would create long term game profitable, in a game that could last a long time. That isn’t what diablo 2 is, it’s a nostalgia cash grab to get money then drop it, which if you bothered to read I already said they weren’t going to do any of it, the game is dead on arrival. They aren’t going to cut into their profit machine by undercutting d4.
You are full of it if you think bots, and cheaters can’t be banned, and minimized to non existence. People who run project 1999, and swg legends already did it. Though those arent profit based games.
Every other mmo did it with a cash shop, and making to so it’s just easier not to cheat, and making it way less profitable to cheat. ESO for the most part did it too, when the game first came out cheaters everywhere, I haven’t seen a bot in ESO since the first days.
So all your saying is you like your pump and dump game the way it is, and you don’t want it to be anything but that.
So as I already said, the games cracked, every one who wants the cracked game, which has mods, got it and is trying to be a bastard and ask for a refund haha, but it’s already dead if you want a no cheat online experience.
So therefore, the only people left are the ones that hope they can relive the glory days and make 1000$ a month off it.
Cool list me some AAA titles without any bugs, aimbots, hackers, cheaters, had entirely balanced pvp, and wasn’t at risk of being hosted on a private server.
I won’t wait because this game does not exist.
Heroes of the storm, has barely any, it’s so rare it’s not worth mentioning. League of legends is so good at it, they got bots playing bots in their own world and most players would never see a cheater or bot. eSo has cheating down so low it doesn’t matter. You just don’t bother to read the 1000 of pages worth of documents on how they battle it, so you just put your ignorant hands up and go can’t be done I know better.
As for diablo 2 they never were going to battle any of it, it’s just a cash grab like wc reforged was.
Ignorant hands of gaming for 30 years and online gaming for 25. Kid.
You’ve proven nothing. Sit down.
You’re naive enough to believe that human ingenuity and resourcefulness will solve all the problems without believing the inverse. Those exact traits led to all the botting, hacking, cheating etc. in the first place. It’s a cycle, and only an arrogant buffon believes a handful of devs are smarter than the collective playerbase of possibly millions and can create the “perfect game”.
True, it’s a fine line, to be sure!
That the company came after ‘hackers,’ is a huge tell, as to whether or not they will support the modder community. There needs to be a middle ground.
I suggest that VV introduce a, sort of, creation kit! Filled with goodies, like:
-
3D mapping, textures, and meshes. Scalable for different resolutions.
-
Wireframe animations, with access to original Diablo 2 LOD graphics. A sort of dress up mannequin.
-
Animation testing, to fix glitches that exist in game.
-
Submition and Approval guide, tool, etc… so that if you do actually fix something, they can add it to the game.
Thoughts?
Hahaha what is with you weridos, I’ve seen this before. So you honestly think I’m a kid? What’s wrong with you if I were, and that’s what you think what are you even talking to me for? If I thought I was dealing with a child I definitely wouldn’t be talking. There arent many children that would have a interest in diablo 2 just stop I don’t need to prove anything it’s all already there. Not only that but being a kid isn’t a dis. Your saying I’m ignorant cause I’m young, you are just being willfully ignorant because your like a anti vaccine person going microchips everywhere.
Here’s some more proof, and it’s about diablo 2.
“who lives in the United States, received his by way of a private investigator Blizzard hired to make the delivery, an obvious intimidation tactic that Shalzuth nevertheless shrugged off during my conversation with him.”
So maybe I’m wrong they might take it seriously and ban all cheaters, modders, and bots. That renewed my faith in them, and maybe it’s not just gonna be a dead on arrival game, and they will take it seriously.
The actions they took against said “hackers” was because they cracked and leaked their alpha client which was in direction violation of use agreements. They don’t care about the people modding, as much as people continue to contort the actual events and repercussions that took place in April.
We are still in beta phase which is to say the game isn’t even out yet - as I’ve said time and time and time again, we do not know whether or not they plan to replace TCP/IP with something safer and more useful. We do not know if they plan to include mod tools to mod the game with.
What we do know is that they said they will be making modding easier as they officially support it.
“but Muyu?!” you ask “They promised TCP/IP! and then they took it away?!”
Sure, but where did they ever promise it? They didn’t. They said that we’ll be able to play on TCP/IP, but that isn’t a promise. It is a statement during an announcement for a game that was still in tech alpha stages at the time.
Their official stance now is that they removed it because of security risks, of which I will not be explaining here because - again - it is against policy to discuss that here on Blizzard forums, so Ill be nipping that in the bud as per the usual.
From my understanding based on observations during Alpha, is that they had already decided to remove it well before the Alpha since it was effectively “disabled” (see: removed from the user interface) but they failed to announce it because they probably didn’t think anyone cared for such a dated and limited technology.
And I don’t blame them, I wouldn’t have thought so either - especially because no matter how much you want to believe it, people playing mods barely used it and you can take that to the bank. My arbitrary number of about 90% of mods were played solo because of a myriad of reasons, the most prevalent being that nobody had any groups to play with.
The largest group of people to use TCP/IP were LAN parties, which were few and far. It is a far more practical decision to remove a security vulnerability than to keep it for a very small minority. Sucks, but it’s how business decisions work that involve money and potential lawsuits. (not that TCP/IP has ever gotten Blizzard in trouble anyway… but better safe than sorry?)
