Please do not turn this into easy mode D3 where all skills are balanced (and can be changed on a whim), and everyone gets loot every run.
Please keep changes minimal and this game will be amazing with longevity. That said, I’m open to new content (pandemonium event) down the road if it’s handled correctly and carefully.
Agree. Things like stacked gems and personal loot, who cares.
If they’re thinking of big changes though, they should be done optionally in a different realm.
There’s too much overthinking with what little information we have. They’ve already said the game will have mod support.
IMO, they should keep the base game as true as they can to the way Diablo 2 has been. Minimal changes such as skill balancing, bug fixes, perhaps a new trading platform I would be fine with.
Other than that, any substantial changes to gameplay should come from mods. These mods could even come from Blizzard!
Now, lets get this game out! I want to play!
stacking gems really depends on the chest in town for me. It it is big enough (mabe unlockable by completing the game on Normal / Nightmare / Hell) then I don’t need those to stack. If we only get one tab then holy mother of whoever I need those to stack.
What D3 are you playing
D3’s skill balance is arguably worse than D2’s because, in general, if a Skill isn’t mentioned in a set it might as well not even be in the game.
You might be right. I could only stomach a few days of it. D3 has a huge lack of diversity though with the the missing talent trees and easy skill changes.
Fair…
I view D3 now like I do Dynasty Warriors series when I played it. I can play it for the combat for 30 minutes but then it is off to something else =)
Not trying to be disagreeable, but in D3 the builds were not very balanced at all. Although you could set difficulty so that any build was technically viable, each class only has a few builds I would consider to be effective. Haven’t played in quite awhile but just wanted to point out D3 is far from having skills balanced to the point you can “change them on a whim.” At least not unless you’re planning to lower the difficulty.
When I do play D3 I play an earthquake Barbarian build, and compared to other Barbarians (like WW) I am very, verrrrry slow and ineffective. But it’s what I enjoy playing, so I do. Just saying, the disparity in builds is almost always noticeable in D3.
I don’t really have an opinion on whether or not I think they should make updates/changes since I’ll play the game either way. D2 is great the way it is, but as with almost everything in life, improvements could (notice I say “could” not should) be made. Saying something has no room for improvements to me just seems ignorant, though I get that people want the game to be pretty much exactly the same. Shared stash I think is a nice touch though.
These are deep changes to the gameplay.
Stackables make the game significantly easier and they have the bitter flavor of utter unrealism. I suppose gems could be the only ones which may make the only sense, but even them - it would remove some of our need to think strategically, and I am against changes which result in our paying less attention. D2 has never asked too much of us. Gaming can be too zombielike already – we need more engagement, not less.
And I think that’s a kind of a “secret” element of what can make games so fun - when we think and succeed. This is also the pro of shared loot over personal loot. The more involved we are in solving the problem, the more gratifying our success. Imo.
But I think D2 had a lot of personal involvement, and non-stackables are a not-insignificant part of that balance.
Yeah I played d3 and it got stale very fast.
I don’t think many people are asking for D2R to be like D3 lol. People just want QOL improvements, improvements to underutilized skills, and possibly new content later on down the road. Stop with the panic.
Inventory management doesn’t really add much to the game. Stop with that nonsense. It might matter more for speed runners such as Mr Llama, but not as much to the average player. It’s just an inconvenience.
I just simply disagree that gem stacking and an opt in sharing system would be a core gameplay change.
Tons of patches over the life of d2 have changed the gameplay far more than either of them
How pleasant of you to say, “stop with that nonsense.” But I totally disagree. I think youre revealing a real lack of nuance and sensitivity if you think inv management was not a component in D2’s fun and success.
The inventory tetris and gem stacking seem like contradictory ideas.
I personally really like inventory Tetris. I enjoy re-arranging my charms in patterns to look nice to me. I enjoy it. I think with the shared stash, I dont really need stacking gems/runes. If there wasnt the shared stash tabs I would be more interested in stackable runes/gems.
no. this gives people incentive to change things more and more. and plus those “upgrades” actually make the game worse
Disagree, though I do think there should be a realm without too many gameplay changes. I wish they would have made a realm without any changes, without the shared stash and gold pickup for those that wanted it, but that ship has sailed.
Oh well, I’m sure they’ll make one version playable with very few changes beyond that.
