My merc changes from aura to aura when on different difficulties.
Originally bought as holy freeze.
Hell - Defiance
Nightmare - Holy Freeze
Normal - Defiance

That is not what is happening here, this is s bug in the mercenary tab, the skill presented there changes on the difficulty even with the same merc.
This is however only a visual bug, the correct aura, the one you bougth is still the one being used. I tested this myself when I saw that the information on the tab was incorrect. I have a holy freeze merc and while in Hell the merc tab says defience but the aura used is still holy freeze.

I didn’t create the post, just clearing up what OP thought the bug was. Yes, in the game on console right now. If you buy a holy freeze merc in NM and check the merc tab(where you equip him) the aura will say holy freeze.
Now if you start a hell game, on that same merc page it will now say defiance, but when playing, the merc will still correctly be holy freeze. So the bug is only a visual one in the merc page.

it is NOT just visual if you test the damage with “defiance” might vs actual might

I am seeing the same thing. It is not visual. And it changes depending on the difficulty. Just replaced my original merc with a holy freeze. Popped back into Hell and it changed to defiance. My son is playing on the same format and his is working correctly.
Ok, I just figured something out. Not tested enough to be 100%, but I removed insight, dropped my pally aura and it forced the merc to cast his aura. Then re equipped insight and popped my aura and all stayed and even though the merc tab shows defiance aura, it’s frozen aura. My experience thus far.
Update:
I have removed all auras from weapons and skills and forced the merc to cast the aura expected and re equipped all gear and skill auras and this has fixed the issue across multiple games and multiple difficulties. By no means saying I have solved this bug, but this has worked so far as a permanent fix for me on the one character I was having this issue. Hope others will try and can confirm. Cheers

This crap is still bugged. Havent been able to get a consistent holy freeze without removing his gear and re-equpping every game.
how retarded blizzard is, cant even fix this…
