How do I drop a current mercenary to a new one? I know I have to be in “town” and remove gear or it will be lost. But for the life of me, I can not drop one to get a new one.
Just hire a new one, you don’t have to fire them first

I read somewhere that I have to be in Co-Op mode to do this. Not sure how to do that but will check it out.
double click on the one you want
Just go to the merc npc for the merc you want. As you said, make sure you’ve previously pulled all the equipment you want to keep off them so it isn’t lost. Then click “hire” for the npc and double click on the new merc you want. It will prompt you to accept that your current merc will be replaced.
TYSM! The simple double click did it! I don’t understand why it seems to take their skill levels to take so long to level. Well, I have another new toy to experiment with.
I am on my 3rd build of the bow/amazon - stuff I keep learning. for me sometimes more often then not - the answer is in front of me. Thanks again for all of your kind answers.
Yeah they don’t gain a skill level each time they level.
Has more info and includes the equation to calculate their levels based on the hireling level (hlvl).
Also the mercs for hire will refresh with new games but not fun just leaving town like merchants stock, so one trick is to leave and join games until you get the skill merc you want at the highest level, which should be close to your level.
