Merc life suddenly drops in half

This has been happening way too often lately. At first I thought it was because of my stupid Rogue getting her backside pounded on while I take care of the bad guys close up. But now it’s happening when she’s at range, with no other enemies anywhere near her.

Another side effect of this is that she stops healing until I give her a potion, go back to town, or find a Well.

Anyone else seeing this? I have a new Singer Bard build (A2 NM, L55), never noticed this with my other Rogue builds.

UPDATE: this bug is getting even worse. Now she’s dropping her life - and still not regenerating - when she levels up!

UPDATE #2: just switched to an A5 merc - same effing issue.

You probably are using Oak Sage from a item charge when Oak Sage is up and merc levels up things like this happen. either recast Oak Sage or feed a life pot to your merc. it’s a Vanilla LoD engine bug, and i doubt blizz will ever fix it.

Nope, don’t use Oak Sage on any of my characters. It just doesn’t make sense why this is only happening to this one character. My FB/Nova Sorce also uses HOTO and this never happens to her; didn’t happen to my Necro when he ran with HOTO, either.

I’m wondering if it’s related to the QoL mod I’m running. This is the first character I’ve built after the mod was installed, the others were just migrated over.

well if it’s modded than I’m afraid blizz won’t help you either… blizz does not give customer support to modded game clients, and they don’t know what’s in theese mods either

I just wanted to see if anyone else had this happen. I only run Single Player, so if this is directly related to the mod, then I can live with it. I’ll try an unmodded Ladder character and see if it’s happening there as well.

Thanks for the input.

this generally happens to druids or anyone using Oak Sage druid skill ( no HotO a.k.a Heart of the Oak runeword is something else).
Oak Sage skill is a pet that gives an aura that increases party’s Life by a given percentage ( it displays an aura under any affected party member ) the bug is as you displayed always when merc levels up. life that is missing on a merc is the percentage given by the Oak Sage aura… if Your mod has QoL of increasing party life, mod creator might have been toying around with Oak Sage Aura to give it to everyone in your party ( in case of single player it’s You Your merc and Your pets.

TL : DR
The bug like You describe was present ever since Druid was introduced to the game with patch 1.07 LoD. if Your mod toyed with party life % boosts then it’s likely the case

Interesting…never have played a Druid, mod doesn’t touch party life (only for Item levels and loot filters). Party life is being affected by my barb’s Battle Orders, but my Frenzy barb didn’t have this happen when his merc leveled up a few days ago.

Battle orders is not affected by this… Battle Orders has other nasty bug with certain quest… and I don;t know if it got fixed

What’s happening here is that when your merc levels up, their life gets set to their new maximum base amount, so if they’re under the effect of life% increases like Oak Sage or Battle Orders then they’ll appear injured.

They won’t naturally regenerate to their new enhanced maximum life until they leech some, you feed them a potion, or heal from a well or vendor.

I guess my only question is why is this happening with one barb (Singer), but not the only (Frenzy); both use Battle Orders constantly; as previously mentioned, Oak Sage is never used.

Your Singer probably has more skill points in BO (whether it be from your gear or hard points) than your Frenzy barb did so the life difference became more noticeable.

Ahh, now that makes perfect sense! Singer is @ 42, Frenzy @ 25. I guess the next question is…is this still considered a bug?

Considering when your own character levels up you always heal to the max even when you have life% increases, yes I’d say this is a bug.

First time running my Singer Barb with patch 2.5. My A2 Merc did not drop HP when leveling, so maybe this bug has been fixed. Next test will be with my Windy Druid (Oak Sage).

And it stills fails. I switched mercs with my Windy Druid, leveling up he was almost dead (L30 Oak Sage in effect).
