Merc Bug fixed After this patch. (2.3)

Not sure if this a ahem “BUG” but here it is.

The patch notes read “* Pets, Summons, and Mercenaries will now warp to a player’s location if they are far away from the player’s character.”

I was a little confused about it at first, the only thing I had noticed was that my Summon would disappear from time to time, but I never had a problem with my Mercs, so I’ve been testing it, and it seems like Merc Bugging no longer works. (Yes it’s the A2 Merc) He still get’s targeted normally by Melee monsters and everything else. I’ve made multiple new games, have done it over and over again after I let him die, and there is literally no difference anymore, He still gets targeted normally by everything. So… Yeah. What’s your experience?

same. i think the merc bug should be reverted back to how it was in LoD. i know they previously mentioned they wanted to keep as many of the bugs we loved as possible, and that was one of them

What am I missing?

What is the bug you are reporting?

More of an exploit, really. I’m happy to see it gone.

Don’t quote me on this, but it’s a bug that’s been around since base Diablo 2 (I think) with the Act2 Mercs because their AI is so bad.

Basically you lock him in a room, you run far enough away, and when he teleports back to you, he’s bugged in a way that melee Monsters won’t target him, making him super useful in a lot of situations, especially for melee players, but the trade off is that now YOU are the main target. (Ranged Monsters still targeted him normally)

I honestly rarely did this, never really found too much use for it, other than with specific builds and characters that it worked wonders for.

As pointed out though, the devs DID say that they wanted to keep bugs that people loved in the game, so if this is an accident, it’s a “bug”. If it’s intentional well, then it’s obviously working as intended lol.

I mainly made this post to let people know about it, and since this specific situation is kind of in a weird limbo area, I just posted it here.

I had it happen by accident a couple of times and did not like that monsters did not target my meat shield, so this wasn’t a bug that’s good for everyone.

Yeah I know it isn’t, that’s what I was trying to say in the reply I posted earlier. It’s not always a good thing and yeah it could happen from time to time on accident, but a lot of people loved it because it helped some builds drastically, especially while playing through with them.

I just wish I knew if it was intentional or not. I mean, like are these kind of things actively being fixed or is it a biproduct of what was just implemented lol.
