Merc Armor : newbies, beware! I got reckt

Don’t forget to think about your mercenary’s strength before choosing something like a Sacred Armor to make his Fortitude into. That’s exactly the mistake I made. My merc is level 84 and he has 189 strength. The Fortitude I made for him requires 232 strength. I heard act 2 mercenaries only get 1.5 strength every level, so… …he will never wear it, even if I level another character to act 5 just to get a Larzuk socketing reward (I already used all 3…) so I can socket his Tal Rasha helm to put an Amethyst or Fal rune (+10 str) in!

But that’s weird, I read that the best armors for mercs were ethereal Sacred Armors  Am I missing something here? With an Infinity, a Fortitude and a Tal Rasha’s Crest it seems your merc can never get that many strength, no? I also thought about using the “-15% requirements” that come with the Hel rune, but you can’t add sockets to a runeworded chest mail…

Am I screwed? Can someone help me?

EDIT: Ha, Ethereal stuff have lower requirements, is that it?

Try and get an andy’s helm you can get up to +30 str on one. Would make a big amount of that up. Could socket a P Amethyst into it as well temp till you’re higher level to make up that difference.

Eth armor does have a str requirement reduction as well but you would still be short in that scenario.

Andariels Visage gives up to 30 strength. If it rolls 30 strength, he’ll be able to wear Sacred Armor at level 89. You can also socket Andys helm with Larzuk and throw a perfect Amethyst in it for +10 strength.

Ha thanks guys. Looks like it’s back to farming… Or do you think I can trade a Tal Rasha’s crest for an Andy?

Very likely not, as Tals helm is much more common than Andarials Visage. You never know though.

Thanks for the info man!

Also, Hel rune’s effect doesn’t currently work for mercs either. :man_shrugging:

How would you then try to mitigate the -30% to Fire Resistance?

And I believe it’s 2 str per level for act 2 mercs.
