Melee splash and D2:R

I’m going to be frank… I never wanted this in D2:R.

EDIT: i RETRACT this suggestion now that they fixed sundering charms to have 1/5th… its no longer “needed”. due to them not breaking the game anymore

but with “sundering charms” blasting open the already massive chasm between caster and melee clear speeds even more by giving all elemental casters negative resists.

i mean i kinda feel adding melee splash to the physical sundering charm is kinda necessary at this a point.

it wont even the playing field… but it would at least close the gap a bit
( we still need to attempt to reach the target before it dies >.>)

on a side not this would also greatly help melee’s PROC our curses that can lower said immunities like every other class gets


to those who don’t know what “melee splash” is
it makes melee damage trigger ranged damage on a melee hit in a small area of effect around the target hit.

most mods make this damage amount “non skill” basic attack damage
but that’s up to blizzard


downsides:
every swing will deal likely deal more damage as the ranged hit can hit the primary target as well
this is power creep. and it way too much creep for my ideal d2:r
but so is giving casters negative resist on all their targets, so its more closing the gap.

personally i would have been against adding melee splash this before sundering charms were added… but it’s a bandaid on the disaster that is “Sundering charms” to close the gap a bit

+1 for melee splash on the physical sundering charm.

Splash damage, or rather “slash” damage should be skill based and directional, with the exception of Whirlwind which should be omnidirectional. It should also only do a fraction of the damage of the main “hit”. The splash damage range should be tied to the weapons “range adder”. And no splash damage on the basic attack either…

Melee needs some loving as far as bridging the damage gap between them and ranged AoE casters.

i mean, by the time u meet the lvl req for sundering charm ( i think it has one right?)
you wont be using basic attacks ever anymore… so thats a needlessly pointless thing to code in. and no it doesn’t need to be directional as its centered around the target it hits not your character.

and melee splashed have never worked with whirlwind in any mod i know of.

blizzard couldn’t even be bothered to figure out that the 1/5th penalty applied when breaking immunes, and they give infinity full benefit by lowering the resists to 95% and allowed cold mastery and facets to always work.
that’s what got to to these mess where this is the best solution to this problem.
i never wanted melee splash. but sundering charms are a thing now we were past that point

i don’t see them reworking every skill, and i would be scared if they ( the team that made sundering charms) attempted to do it quite frankly.

i don’t know how much more damage this game can take.

Please, please, don’t add splash melee to the game blizz…

D2 already has zeal, fury, WW (cant proc curses, oh well), assassin MA skills, Zon CS… melee has aoe in this capacity already.

Why? Melee still miles behind. We need changes - buffs and nerfs. This is still a buff to casters.

yes… its a buff to casters… but i mean… holy **** its better than the alternative.

its the difference between a head on car crash at 60 mph and backing up into another car.

i mean yeah still buffs caster, and it still widens the gap, but at least the game is ALIVE after it. with the new nerf of 1/5th penalty.

they hit the brakes hard enough to make the change survivable
