Max character slots?

Now that characters will be permanent, with no time out, it’s clear that they will limit how many you can have at the same time.
Otherwise you could just keep creating mules to store infinite gear.

What do you think the max will be?
I’d be ok for a reduced amount, if there were multiple shared stash tabs.

Something like character classes x2 for for softcore and the same for HC.

If they stick to what was then, we should have 8 but we should definitely get infinite character slots. There is no way one account can have only 8 character slots and be enough for all types of character builds.
I been looking everywhere and in one of the videos, from Force Gaming on tube at video point 8:23 in, there was a clip showing more than one shared stash tap. Hopefully we get more than those 3.

Plus, I’ve been looking around to where they mention that our characters won’t “expires” but I can’t find anything yet.

If you look at @27:20 BlizzConline 2021 - Diablo II: Resurrected Deep Dive - YouTube, you’ll see 8 character slots, however there is also a scroller on the side. Makes ya think

Very true, unfortunately it was under the “local” tab which was like single player mode on the original, where we can have more than 8 characters. Hopefully the online tab is more than 8.

I asked the same question on reddit and was told, in a Q&A from blizzcon they reported 18 slots. Haven’t confirmed but sounds reasonable. I presume it would be 18 for single player and 18 for online. Not sure whether classic and LoD modes are separated and get 18 each but I’d hope it is.

Tbh I think they should have more but 18 is probably fine for me.

Did you guys actually play the official d2 in the past few years? You currently have the option to fill 16 hero per account, online or not, that improvement came out two ladders ago iirc.

Obviously you should be allowed to create as many accounts as you want, or as many charas as you want in instance, why would anyone want them to downgrade that option?

Being able to only create 18 chars is a joke.

I think you still need to limit the number of characters. let’s say no more than 50. It is also interesting how many tabs in the common chest will be, because of these theoretical 50 characters, someone will be a “mule” due to the limitations of the tabs. It will be very interesting to look at the final solution of game designers

Are you sure on the 16 character limit on local? If it’s my disk space, I should make as many as I like.

18 sounds more than fine considering you can farm Tokens of Absolution to switch builds if you want. The real question is, does that mean 18 shared stash tabs???

Honestly, I could see Blactivision adding a “pay for more stash/character slots” option once ladder season 2 rolls around.

To be fair, I wanted extra character slots and tabs for D3, paid or otherwise, but that was never an option. I found this not happening to be very strange for actibliz.

The shared stash isn’t meant to replace mules, it’s to facilitate them. It’s not like the mods where it is your account bank go wild fill it up with all sets etc. It’s mostly for transferring. You will still need to have mule characters, just you have a way easier time of getting items over to them.

My only concern about a character limit is the fact that this game will be on BNet 2.0, which means we won’t be able to create as many account as we want. So, my hope is that they will include a decent sized limit.

I’m totally ok for a fixed number of characters. Maybe 14 (2 slots per class). But this has to go paired with an increase of the stash capacity. Not to the level of PlugY (infinite) but to a level which makes muling useless and allow you to focus on the game itself

D3 has a pretty sweet spot on this imo (both number of chars and stash size).
Or a tad more

then in general, what is the meaning of this innovation? It seems to be positioned as “analogue of mules”

Fully agree on these points. There’s a reason so many people use PlugY, the stash size is invaluable. I understand why the stash size was created this way, but modern innovation aren’t always a bad thing. D3 is not a game I really enjoy all that much, but they did get the stash mostly right and I never had a problem with the character limit.
