Hello, I have recently bought the game on sale and having a blast just like in old times. I am thankful for many improvements that Resurrected came with, however I noticed, while mana burn seems to be (finally) fixed, mana drain on creatures like ghosts/spectres still seems to be broken. According to Diablo Wiki, they also apply effect of mana burn, but instead they can take all my mana (around 450 on my barbarian) by just one hit, just like mana burn monsters before fix.
So my question is - is that intended, or oversight when fixing this old bug? It would be cool if it was repaired as well in future patch, because it makes fighting on some maps (like Arcane Sanctuary) very frustrating, at least on Hell and for melee characters.

The fix lets them drain a lot of mana just not empty the 4k + tank of an es sorc with one attack
TLDR it was a Sorc buff. You know, like sunders. Cause Sorc’s were terrible. Right?
u are unironically so annoying. every character uses mana, it hurt everyone equally. dont think ive ever seen something written by you that wasnt mindlessly negative or had any amount of thought behind it.
as for op, its intended. before, it was x255 the damage it was suppose to be (so no matter what anyone did, it always took 100% of your mana pool). ~500 mana damage is the actual intended value for the ghost monster types. of course, 500 mana damage can be an entire mana bar for undergeared/underleveled characters, and still a large chunk of the mana bar even with an endgame character. as for the current number balance, it probably hurts non-sorcs more than it does sorcs, so the mana damage the monsters do should probably be nerfed a bit, maybe ~25-30% or so

It is strange to me, considering normal unique with minions with mana burn take around 1/4 of my mana with each hit, when at the same time even normal trash mob ghost can take entire globe with ease. It does not seem to be balanced right now, and it hurts melee characters even more, like as you said - they have lesser mana pool and contrary to ranged characters, they will often engage ghosts and similar creatures in close range and expose themselves even more to these attacks.
I’ve also spotted something similar happening with stamina drain monsters - some stupid bees can suck all my stamina with 2 hits or so. My theory is, that while they fixed mana burn affix on uniques, they simple ignored similar effect on other monsters. Of course I could be wrong, but it feels off as of now.
i get it. i think the ghost-type mosnters having a higher mana damage is better for monster identity, as its unique to them, tehres only a few of them, and theyre largely avoidable (souls almost never melee, storm casters too, and ghosts you can walk through if you know how their ai works). but ofc sometimes youre forced to engage ghosts and it can be annoying. so i can see nerfing the mana damage of the ghost-type monsters a bit. until it was fixed in d2r, im pretty sure the mana damage was always bugged, and so it never had a chance to be balanced. everyone just took it as “this is the way it is” since it affected everyone equally
In my opinion ghosts were draining mana properly before. Mana brun was glitched.
Now mana burn is fixed but ghosts’ mana drain seems to be broken. It wqs not that powerful before if I remember.
u arent remembering correctly. all melee mana burn was x255 in the original game. d2r fixed that, so in all cases, it either does 255x less damage than the original game, or the same amount in the case of ranged damage (which doesnt apply to any of the ghost-type monster skills, only mana burn enchanted ranged monsters like archers)
It was never broken. Everyone whoever cried it was a bug was a noob and just wanted the game made easier.
It doesn’t “hurt everyone equally.” It hurt everyone equally before. Now it hurts people will smaller mana pool proportionally more.
If I sound negative that’s because I’m commenting on the changes made to the game. Maybe they should make some positive ones.
I mean what do you expect me to say? “Oh boy I’m so happy they made this change I hate! I love things I dislike so much. Man I love it when they change things I like into things I don’t!”
I’d be all for nerfing AoE, adding another difficulty, adjusting a few items downward on the power scale, adding more immunities, and a slew of other things to bring some more difficulty in. However nearly every change they have made, made the game easier.
I’ll make you a deal, when they start nerfing things, I’ll be much more positive. I mean I Like that TZ’s at least added a “bit” of extra difficulty (even if they make leveling vastly easier, and the difficulty didn’t go nearly far enough), I just didn’t, and still don’t like the implementation.
We’re kind of just at a point now where every build can do everything, alt’s feel pointless, and the only thing left is seeing how fast you can clear.
that is quite literally what i said. you are literally repeating what i said lol
no, what you can do is “okay, fixing mana burn was a good step but we still need more changes”. deleting everyones mana pool is not a fun mechanic. it completely prevents energy shield from being useful. it makes new melee players have a hard time in certain areas. the idea that it now punishes melees more than it does casters is a genuine problem being raised, which ultimately came into the discussion through rational and civil talk, and hence my agreement in that it should be nerfed some more, or maybe based on % instead of flat.
being a baby about everything never gets anyone anywhere. it only makes you look ridiculous and makes it hard for anyone to take you seriously, which is probably why nothing you’ve ever wanted has been implemented into the game. this post that you’ve just written is actually a useful, productive, good post that rationally conveys your thoughts and desires for the game. jokes and sarcasm are fine but the sheer amount of complaining you do just makes it look like you’re looking for attention and makes it easy for me to assume you’re just mindlessly complaining all the time. but don’t get me wrong, blizzard is definitely at the bottom of the barrel these days. you can’t get worse than them.

You do you man, but if you drop me in a dumpster full of dog craps, then I’m not about to go looking all that hard for the one that smells slightly less.
When they do something right, and don’t just mindlessly make the game easier, I’ll be sure to point it out.
There is positivity, and then there is copium. No matter how you want to phrase it “just one more change and it won’t suck I swear” just reads like copium.
When you need multiple balance changes to bring something back to an equal state to where it already was, it’s not good. Just revert the change lol.
