Mana burn now bugged?

Mana burn now seems to be bugged worse than before.
1 hit and all mana is gone (with or without mana shield up)

It’s always been broken.
The only time it works properly is if the monster that hit you is ranged.
Any melee mobs do like 6000x what they are supposed to.

The math for Mana Burn is supposed to be 1 damage to life = 4 mana burned. So if a monster with Mana Burn hit you for 100 damage to life, you should lose 400 mana. Honestly though, Mana Burn has been the way it currently is for as long as I can remember and it keeps things interesting.

Several people have complained about this. There was one topic where someone pointed out it isn’t just broken but totally screwed up in hell difficulty.

The topic pointed out how Mana burn/mana drain is supposed to be an affix. That means only the enemies who have it are supposed to be able to do it, yet every enemy in hell difficulty can do it


They said either remove it as an affix, or restrict only the enemies who have it as an affix to be able to do it because this crap of enemies without the affix being able to mana burn you such as a Carver, and goat men out in blood moor, needs to stop.

It can’t be worse than burning your whole mana pool in one touch, no matter how much mana you have.

It is still terribad tho and I really hope it get fixed one day.

I don’t really play melee, but I feel like mana burn is really awful to play against as melee, Melee by design is punishing enough.

And it has been confirmed bugged so it would burn you 256x times the mana of mob damage instead of the original 4x, by arreat summit

I wonder, if they would fix this bug, yes it is a bug, would it also lead to outrage of the purists? With the latest patches, they started to fix some bugs like ias. Then it came to forum that the players would like to have their bug back. I understand that D2 should remain D2 but bugfixes are good for all. All know that this mana burner is a hot burner and works not as intended.

On topic, I’m currently trudging through Act III Hell on my fire claws druid, which is loads of fun when you get swarmed by mana-burning flayer demons every three steps.

Lol it gets worse. In hell it’s 512x the intended amount, not 256x. Because your resists for “mana burn” damage type is at -100%, and nope there’s nothing in the game that adds resistance to that damage type. Even magic damage can be somewhat pathetically resisted by safety shields.

If they fix manaburn bug, I can let my cat play my sorceress. They already fixed viper poison, so no danger for ES sorceress will remain at all.

Not worse then before, the bug is an old and it burns 256 MP for each HP lost and 512 MP for each HP on hell iirc (due to -100% resistance on hell, which shouldn’t affect this so double bug).
So burning all your mana even if you have like 3k is quite doable with the bug.
Personally I think fixing Mana Burn would be a good thing, even though it is an old bug.

WTH are you talking about? Mana burn can spawn on ANY mobs, it’s an affix for bosses AND MINIONS, all affixes can spawn on any bosses AFAIK.

Not all, some combinations were restricted. But yes, manaburn can be on any monster group.
