Magic Find and flaws

So it’s basically 100% mf = 10% chance of finding more rare items. 200% mf = 20% chance, so on so forth; whatever. I have read a bunch of people saying over 400% you’ll have more diminishing returns on drops which I highly doubt, beings you’re still below the half way mark to 50% ( 500% ) mf. Diminishing returns shouldn’t be a thing; especially when you MF for MAGIC FINDING gear, to start magic finding :joy:. Idk. Just doesn’t make sense to me. On original D2 LOD drops were a lot better ( close to the same drop rate as RM version ), but I found 230-310mf back then was best. On D2R… I’ve tried from 500% all the way to 200%. Both I ran pindle, pit, trav and each boss 20x. Best thing I got was a +15IAS/+15AR jewel. So idk. :joy:

Mf also depends on a monster’s drop chance. 100% mf used on a monster with 1% chance to drop a magic item is only 2%.

Blizzard’s actual words on The Arreat Summit:
Magic Find Totals
100% - Magic Find Newbie
200% - Magic Find Newbie
300% - Magic Find Newbie
400% - Magic Find Regular
500% - Magic Find Regular
600% - Magic Find Professional
700-1167+% - Magic Find Master

In my 18 years of experience playing this game almost everyday I’ve rarely use over 100mf. The mf I do use is either from Enigma or CoH. I pretty much only play the barbarian, which I’ve developed enough skill that I don’t need to use the best gear to play through the game, nor to be efficient leveling in the 90s. I just play the game leveling up my character as the main goal. Doing this I’m not disappointed by drop rates. I farm for experience in lvl 85 areas in act 4 and 5, a side benefit is that almost every item in the game eventually drops between clvl 75 and 95. Which fully gears my barbarians for the eventual real challenge of 98 - 99.

This website doesn’t load? I just put on over 550% MF. Killed all bosses, and others mentioned above. Didn’t get a single unique or taste from either main boss or pindle, more surprisingly… Trav dropped nothing. Other than gold currency and blues.

Search for The Arreat Summit. Click Items on the left. Then at the top of the site click Magic Prefix and Suffixes, second link is all about mf. It’s an old site and reclicking links is sometimes necessary to wake it up while loading.

Also, if you can do Pindle with your 550 mf, just run him over and over, and maybe add Shenk and Eldritch. These 3 monster you’ll clear in less than 2 minutes altogether. Do them 10 times in a row, add no other area. You’ll score.

I’m with you on time played. I’ma huge Diablo fan. Someone commented on trade forums to combine D2 w/ D3… uhh no. If you want a broken game, bring D3 ( which I wasn’t very fond of ), on over and cross the two together. Talk. About. Broken. :man_facepalming:t3:

I’ve also noticed MFING is more like a job than a hobby now? No I don’t a drop every game. Every 7-8 runs? That’d be nice, don’t even have to be a “ super item “. Just, something y’know? :joy:

I also feel these websites are breaking the trade system; everybody buying their gear and trade chat is broken. The newer players don’t know what a great item is. For example. I have a 10%FCR +10 MD +12dex +5mana with all res +10. They called it trash?!?!:+1:t3:

Back in the day, even now. These rare rings are best for PvP and PvE. Just makes zero sense to me.

Are you playing on pc or console?

PC brother. Yourself?

I refunded my copy before Alpha was launched. I’m sticking with the Classic version for now. Maybe if they get to a place with the game where they can launch ladders, I’ll repurchase and play to eternalalize a barbarian on the first ladder’s hall of fame.

There are several conversation about MF problems going on in the D2R GD forum you might want to check out.
