I cant seem to get Mage plate or Archon plate to drop. I am playing a Frenzy barb ,does that make a difference. Is my mf to high or too low? It just never drops even running cows/solo. I might get light armor to drop from time to time. A bug or am iImissing something?
Where are you farming at? What area and what difficulty?
Just keep playing and they’ll drop. Or try to trade for one if you’re online

I have tried cows nm,and act 1 catacombs. Act 3 Travincal nm. Hell well all over the place,i thought it might be because of my class.
In my experience it starts dropping after the character level hits 30+, and it’s dropped quite frequently in the past even on characters with low MF%. It’s not even class-specific, either.
Socketed Mage Plate is actually quite rare, though (IME) and usually if I see a Normal quality one, I’ll save it for a try with Larzuk or the Cube recipe to see what I can get for sockets.

Mage Plate is iLV 60. It can drop from Baal on Normal or any monster that is in an area whose level is 60 or higher in NM. SuperUniques and bosses use their own mLV and TC, so you should check to see which ones can drop Mage Plate in NM.

Archon Plate, on the other hand, can only drop in Hell, and only in aLV 85 areas as the TC for Archon Plate is TC 84. that means the earliest you can farm it in Hell is The Pit in Act 1. Elite armor types do not drop in Nightmare except from bosses that roll a +1 boost to its TC for that session’s drops, and even then, only if the TC is 72 or lower.

I have a couple mages if you want to trade for one
I probably should have prefaced that with “earliest feasible place to farm unless you’re a multi-element sorc”. While they both have a super chest and are aLV 85, The Pit is much, much larger, and more importantly for non-sorceress characters, has enough of a mix of mobs that you can almost always get some life steal / mana steal in, something you can’t do with a sorc. There are also far more mobs in The Pit than the Mausoleum, making it far more likely you’re going to find something there, especially if you go for those nooks and crannies with the tiny devilkin.
armor tends to drop most often in act 5 from my experience. in particular the road to kill nihilatak drops a lot of high level armor. imho there is not a lot of difference between wyrmhide, scarabhusk, archon plate, wire fleece and great haubrek as all of those are light elite armor which means they do not hamper youre movement as much as the heavy. a 15 ed wyrmhide w/515 defense is better than a 490 archon. a 15 ed archon is 540 or something so not a lot of difference. and dont wait for 15 ed arch unless you can dupe or you have a few HRs to burn for this cause.
I see Archon plates drop often in Hell - mostly in cows and CS.
You want like no MF at all if you are looking for white or eth items and just run nm cows for mage and hell cows for archon.
