Heard of Google?
Yeah?
Next time use it…
“Checks the internet, says staves/maces”
Guess you didn’t read.

I read what OP said… not my problem that he isn’t smart enough to google “What hoto base should I use”…
Don’t be a smartass…
Pretty sure arreat summit has a asterisk/disclaimer/note about this exact runeword which tells you exactly what bases would work for HOTO. Sorry that happened to you though, lesson learned I guess.

That’s a bummer
wowhead has a great page on runewords, and before the weapon section they have an explanation on what weapon is in what class. It does need to be fixed a bit for sure because some items are just misnamed.

Arreat Summit is the official site and it has the warning on that rune word. No better site…

Yeah… remember to do your research before socketing/allocating points into your stats.
Happened to all of us at once point or another.
oof. thats an expensive lesson.
on the bright side its one that you will remember forever!
sorry for your loss.
So you’re allowed to be a smartass, but someone else isn’t?
Aren’t you precious…

Yes and yes…
I’m adorable…
Arreat Summit as mentioned above. Always double check build respec’s and runeword’s.
edit: and spelling, double check that as well
Yeah, nothing like having to study a f’ing game online before playing it. It really is crappy design. The runewords were actually never listed. Blizz actually intended for players to “discover” them in game (yeah, with these drop rates). The only reason people have any of this stuff is because the files were cracked.

You either discovered them or bought strategy guides. It was the late 90’s - early 2000’s, what do you expect? Hand holding?
They weren’t in the strategy guides. They gave a few examples. NOBODY went out and “discovered” a 6os weapon and put Vex Hel El Eld Zod Eth in the thing. So, s.t.f.u. acting like you know something.

Lol I was talking about this a few days ago. I said I had played the game for over a year before I found out runewords existed. Someone came in and started saying stuff like “well thats on you they are on the official page”. Like… I didn’t even know arreat summit existed. I said I knew what was in the manual and a vague hint from one npc in act 5 and that was it. That person returns with “oh it IS in the manual though!” So I looked myself.
Runes are different from other Insertable Items: not only do individual Runes have magical properties, certain combinations (or Rune Sets), when inserted into an item in the proper order, give that item even more wondrous abilities.
My god. So there was a vague hint about them in the manual too. Like anyone was going to figure out that runewords existed from that. They didn’t even call it runewords… I’ve never heard of runeset before.
People didn’t just open askjeeves (remember that? We used that before google existed) the second they encountered a problem, let alone not encountering a problem.

Dude, the game is 20+ years old… there are so many resources that’ll tell you anything you want to know… lol
