Lost hundreds of hours worth of gear

I want my money back for this game please.
This is very frustrating and completely unacceptable.

Was sorting out my stash and so many things were on the floor which took so long to get. They all just disappeared and then the game specifically autosaves when this happens ontop of it.
I actually want further compensation for this loss, this is totally unacceptable.
There should be at least a save backup or something to recover.
No excuse for this kind of program behavior. Especially not for a game played in single player mode. This would never have happened with the original game.

There is a good reason why I never purchase blizzard products, and this is certainly it.
Fool me once, I guess.
Well done, blizzard. Well done.

This did happen in the original game, items on the ground will eventually disappear.

Items and Gold Disappear after time when left on the ground
Don’t leave items or gold lying on the ground any longer than necessary, especially when transferring in town (“muling”) as they disappear after a certain amount of time:

  • 10 minutes: Key, Potion, Scroll, Tome, and Ammo (Arrows, Bolts).
  • 10 minutes: Any Armor and Weapon of quality < magic, regardless if flagged as ‘‘Ethereal’’, ‘‘Socketed’’ or not, and Rune Words.
  • 10 minutes: Pandemonium artifacts (Key of Terror/Hate/Destruction, Mephisto’s Brain, Diablo’s Horn, Baal’s Eye).
  • 10 minutes: Essence (4 flavours) and Token of Absolution (these are new items from Patch 1.13x).
  • 20 minutes: Magic Items, Gems and Runes.
  • 30 minutes: Rare, Set, Unique and Crafted Items.

Picking an item onto your cursor and dropping it again resets the timer.

oh yes, very helpful to further add insult to injury. as if you did not read the part about the game autosaving once the items disappear and you also somehow believe you know better than i to then reassure me this would also happen in the original game when it certainly does not.

perhaps this is all just simple oversight and the company behind these games is not inherently corrupt.

remember now, blizzard personally owes me the loss of something which is valued to them, personally. keep this in mind, good friend

It wouldn’t matter. Auto-saving or not. You cannot recover your items once they disappear from the ground.

It always worked this way. And the documentation for it has been available since D2:LoD was first released in 2000.

Sorry for your loss.

the original d2/lod does not autosave from thin air. i know this for sure.
as soon as i noticed the items were gone from the floor, i tabbed out and copied the save folder which captures the exact moment of the save before anything is done in game, such as saving and exiting.

absolutely no reason for this

I don’t mean to laugh at your misfortune but come on man what were you doing?? You’re just one power outage away from disaster, do you like laughing in the face of danger or what?! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

You just don’t get it.

It does not matter. If you leave items on the ground too long the game DELETES those items. Auto-save or not…   They’re GONE.

In D2:LoD the game was (is) auto-saved every 5 minutes. Originally, if we wanted to mule items and we were playing Solo,

  1. We had to create a game,
  2. stay in it for 5 minutes for the first auto-save,
  3. drop items on the ground,
  4. Save & Exit the game,
  5. select a mule
  6. and then Join the same game to pick those items up.

We did NOT have Shared Stash Tabs.

In D2:LoD, Patch 1.14d, we no longer have to wait 5 minutes when first creating a game. The game is auto-saved on creation. But, that’s only recently. After that, it still auto-saves every 5 minutes.

In D2:R we now have Shared Stash Tabs. There is NO reason to drop items on the ground unless you’re giving them to a member of your Party.

In Summary

This report is irrelevant for 2 reasons:

One

As DarkMaster already posted from The Arreat Summit:

Two

You can argue about it all you want, but this information has been available ever since D2:LoD was first released.

I want my money back because I made a mistake. :joy: This is the best post for a while.

And on the top in a bug report forum. And this is definitely not a bug it’s how the game works.
