LOL these old and ugly character models

Making the characters more realistic wasn’t the focus for initial development of the game.

Here is a source for the information I found.
Rob Gallerani Explanation

Just ignore the video itself but just watch it for the images of the quotes from Rob himself. I have class soon for school and didn’t have time to find the main article.

I love when people reference “realism” in a game where you fight the devil and shoot fireballs out of little sticks of wood. These people really like to pick and choose to suit their needs don’t they?

???
The trailer is 3 weeks old!
Ingame model is not the same!
Amazon is still beta in the game!
So a “beautiful” woman rolls out of a nightclub and can’t be a warrior?
She looks old, but not in the trailer…

Indeed, the age of the game characters looks like forty or fifty. Where’s the sexy and deadly assassin? Where are the tough savages? Where is the beautiful witch? Please refer to the character design poster of northern blizzard. The previous character’s appearance design was obviously excellent. Now the face deliberately designed by Blizzard’s official design team is ugly and bloated, and the sexy clothes of female characters have been forcibly changed. For example, when Amazon ran in the past, you can see the character’s shaking hip, and now Blizzard has added cloth strips.

The head of the development team claimed that he didn’t want to see the female characters come out of the nightclub, but he was only responsible for resetting the game. That’s all. What qualifications and powers did he have to change the character image designed by blizzard in the north? Didn’t he emphasize the original principle of game remaking?

The OG designs were more realistic than these new ugly & old people. Also there haven’t been any explanation for the race washing of the Assassin. I can’t imagine why they felt it was necessary to change the race of an iconic character.

There is one side of giving them clothes; Honestly if you are complaining about covering up the hips or thighs of the Assassin or Amazon, you are not helping this discussion. As stated above Blizz is having some serious issues with sexual discrimination and it’s clearly been shown that the old group was pretty crass and just didn’t care.

There is a second layer past giving them clothes that pushes into just making them old and ugly which is where they put things. It’s like the wanted to make sure no one had any thought that Blizz might make a game where people look ok.

Honestly it’s not like this is a JPRG that has boob adjustments and the characters bounce around so that everything jig-gles. (seriously Jig-g is a problem? what if we were talking about fishing?)

It’s actually really simple.

Because they are pandering heavily.

They are also trying to avert peoples’ attention away from all their scandalous allegations so what they did was swing the pendulum WAYYYYY in the opposite direction. All that does it make them look more guilty. Like when a person is caught speeding by the police so they make up some INSANE story about why they “had to speed”.

It’s really that simple.

Some of the character models are atrocious. What was Blizz thinking giving us female characters that look male. Worse the Amazon looks like an old alcoholic male. Is this more pandering by Blizz or a bad joke? I think I threw up a little in my mouth when I first loaded the game and saw it. Someone should be fired for this.

Amazon should look like in the trailer!
Blizz want feedback?

That was only the defensive explanation for the main truth. Which is the scandal. In the first part of the video within the article page that first is imaged in the video by Dash, it shows that VV were working to to retain the old art style but with the scandal, all of that was changed.

Perhaps it was going to be a choice of updated old character models and the realistic ones.

Note that the scandal first came about not long before Closed beta release.

With the statement itself, I am just glad that Blizzard explained why they did this. It’s better to have some sort of explanation/reasoning than none at all.

Their not pandering. In this political time, no matter which way the pendulum swings, it’s best to stay neutral on the situation. Plus, the scandal itself makes it to where they can’t have more political blow back than they already have.

The Amazon in the character trailer is the same Amazon model from the closed and open beta.

Is there anything is the TOS the would prevent the creation and use of user side skin mods. Full nude mods would be funny

I definitely did. I like hot people… don’t you?

All of them are so ugly. Only the sorc and barb look passable.

With the removal of TCP/ICP that hampered the possibility of mod support for the time being.

Blizzard have stated that mods will be supported at some time but we don’t know just yet in what form that might be.

No! We are not blind!

What’s wrong with their face? Amazon is the only class I’ve played out of normal so far because she is bad- well a word Blizz would frown on.

The Alpha with the models people seem to have issues with for not being pretty enough was released in April 2021.

The “Scandal” broke in at the end of July 2021 when the Govt of CA sued them (ATVI, Blizzard, and Activision).

Please explain to me how VV, who worked as a separate Studio in upstate NY, clear across the country, and who worked under Activitision were aware of Blizzard’s involvement in a scandal that had not happened yet.

Yes, they were doing realistic and gritty art. Yes they were trying to stick to original gameplay and concepts. But people have twisted that into “but they were going to make the chars exactly the same”. No, they were not. No, they did not cover them up after the lawsuit happened. Those decisions were already made.

Otherwise, I mostly agree with you.

There should be an option to have legacy mode character screens. I will take old pixelated stuff over this nonsense.

The alpha models were changed though not long after Pez Radar’s quote. That was the change. That change was implemented with the closed and open beta test phases.

Yes, but remember before the scandal broke, VV had already been assigned to join Blizzard after Spyro came out from Activision. Yes, they still might be Activision, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t know about it earlier in advance.

I don’t think it was the plan from the start to make the character’s realistic to fit the tone of the world. At least it could have been a choice. That is what it sounds like from the interview, but with the scandal, they axed the choice and just only had the realistic models.

From the article, it sounds like they did both at first, had models that were the alpha versions of realistic characters and had updated old models, but the old model’s were axed when the scandal broke in the internet and became public knowledge.

Thanks Cheetah. I mean you know where I stand on the realistic models. Considering we had these discussions before. Like I said, I am fine considering they did change what they could from how the character looked from Alpha.

Who says that? You?

You’re completely missing the point.

It’s about authenticity, people want a recreation of the old models, just in HD. It makes no sense to make the characters look so old and ugly, it just doesn’t.

If the characters would look like drug and alcohol abusers in the original game, nobody would bat an eye I can guarantee you.
