Loading screens

Curious if theirs any way to reduce/mitigate these without spending 3 grand on a pc. I don’t even lag or have delays on games that are far more intense on my pc and my graphics card. Yet swapping acts and entering a game comes with a 15-20 second load screen (12ish when going a4 > a3 durance 2.) . .

I like the game, and played d2lod endlessly. but having a 12-15+ second wait for anything outside the presnt act is brutal (just earlier i had a near 15 second screen taking a tp out of trist to start cows). . I can handle 3-5 seconds. that’s really not that bad. but the present duration is just brutal (esp since you can die during it)

Assuming you’re running on an SSD, I suspect there is some hardware conflict issues going on that is causing problems for some. Personally, my load times are quite fast with fairly mild specs: Ryzen 5 2600 CPU (3 years old) and a modest sata SSD.

Just curious, but what are your specs and have you checked to make sure your drivers are all updated?

I’m certain that it’s issues that the game has with certain hardware. My log is full of texture errors that seem to line up with when I try to load into areas.

10/5 08:49:03.521 [Texture/4] [<>:0]: The texture array data/hd/env/texture/act1/catacomb/act1_catacomb_egress/act1_catacomb_egress_stairs03_d_orm.texture was deleted before it finished loading.

i5-8400. drivers are all installed properly.
8g ram
main hard drive 222 ssd (installed here)
2nd hard drive is 2 terrabytes

videocard - Nvidia geforce gtx 1060 3gig of vram

Nah it is not the SSD fault here. My fast ssd or nvme run so quick even adobe 3d rendering starts loading immediately after opening a huge project

d2r loads like warcraft 3

I played the classic d2 and i know it is faster than d2r

Would getting a bigger SSD help? Maybe it’s your low VRAM. 3 GB isn’t a lot.

I don’t even have a high cpu load. . entering game it spikes to 80% for a brief moment. but swapping acts (the agregious load times) it’s only hiting like 60%. . using msi afterburner

edit: my gpu can get pretty high on the other hand. . . and it doesn’t even matter what graphics settings I have. so it isn’t the graphics card.

it’s dramatically faster. . my load screens there didn’t usually exceed 5s. . maybe 10 loading into a game sometimes. . . but swapping between acts wasn’t near ad agregious.

I could handle 15 seconds getting into a game. if annoying. but 12-30 just swapping acts? . .just doing meph runs, i spend more time in loading screens than actually doing the mf run. (enter game > 10-15 | a4 > durance 2 12-15 | durance 3 > ar 12-15)

I have a recently built gaming rig with an M2 SSD.

Still get long loading screens randomly.

Some folks said that reducing the texture and resolution improves loading times. Maybe the huge amount of files being loaded could be an issue.

RAM, SSD and cache could be easily impacted.

Most SSDs have cache and when a file passes certain thresholds their speeds could be easily on same level as hdd.

8GB RAM doesn’t help either, because would force more constant cache on disk also.

I experienced this game on Fx-8350 and Ryzen7 5800x both handled fine on cpu wise. GPUs on the other hand have a really hard time because this game has several stuff loading at same time.

Considering that gpu doing some heavy lifting on 3D assets, could be her preventing you to load game faster.

Most of my loads are near instant, on ADATA Falcon(without cache) and without intervention of OS messing with his speeds.

I can play just fine on highest or low at 1080p but if I put 4k loadings increases a bit. Maybe your issue is a combination of bottlenecks. Starting with disk, ram and gpu.

Reduce your render scale to the bare minimum and put on low. If it changes, you got disk and gpu sorted out. If not, maybe windows are messing with your I/O on disk or you don’t have enough ram.

If the issue persists, try update drivers and stuff like that. Because the issue, most likely, is something not well aligned on your end. D2R isn’t an optimized game and if you’re sure that your internet isn’t the issue, the problem should be on some piece of hardware not having enough time to proper handle the function.

nah its just loading times theres not some secret code to make it slower or faster… its just a lag delay because u can click and move before ur screen pops up its not an ssd problem its not a ram problem… ive tested diff ram speeds and diff amounts and 2 diff ssd’s load times did not change… i was playing 1080p 100hz earlier… i5 9600k running at 4.1ghz and a gtx 1060 6g 24g 3000hz ram… temps never going over 70 even if mulitasking… now one thing i havent seen people saying is could this be a internet latency issue or internet related in general no idea… and yes my 24g ram has diff size ram sticks… but i also tried just 2x8 3200mhz sticks in the right slots and still no difference

There is literally nothing wrong with the game and how it handles load times.
It is all as intended. 4K graphics (textures, particles, models etc) will always load this slowly for the next 5-10 years because of how much the game has to load into memory to make the game work due to hardware constraints at our current technology level, every time you change an act or a zone via portal or dungeon.
If we had GPUs that had 30gb of VRAM, they could’ve simply opted to load everything into memory at load time but that simply isn’t the case.

but arent the load times still the same on legacy mode?

Just tried this, and I think its working. Will have to play some more, but that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the tip.

D2R’s “legacy” mode still has the high resolution models loaded when you’re playing Legacy mode so that you can actively switch to and from freely. It’s an unfortunate downside but it has the advantage of keeping the game freely switchable and seamless.

ahh thanks for the knowledge i did not know thats how it worked, im pretty dumb tech wise lol

i would definitely consider getting another 8 gigs of ram 16 is the recommended amount for 1080p for a reason. the 3d files are much bigger and take much more space and time to load than the old 2d sprites. The more you can have cached in ram the faster it will load.

seems a few things to test later. I’ll definately upgrade my ram though. . that’s something that’ll need done regardless. it’s also quite easy to insert a couple ram sticks. i’ll probably do that next week. for now i’ll see about various resolutions

My issue is even up on video on yt. When the person returns from the portal, the game already senses the click. In ACT3, after clicking on a teleport, I got to the bridge instead of the trader. Every act on every level is like that.

But i continue to think about this type of errors:

“was deleted before it finished loading” textures etc…

and in the log file i have many of this…
