Loading Screen Vulnerability & File Size Limit

The developers have done great work on a pretty extensive list of bug fixes for 2.5, but two issues still remain: Loading Screen Vulnerability and File Size Limit…

First, I don’t understand why we can’t fix the loading screen vulnerability issue? It was fixed in the Beta, but never made it to release. Just make the character invunerable to damage until all assets are loaded on screen. Lets make it so hardcore players don’t lose sleep over Duriel.

Second, D2R has a 8 KB limit for save files, which includes your character information, inventory, etc. The problem with 8 KB limit is the personal stash size was increased to 10x10 from 6x8, meaning it’s much easier to exceed the 8 KB limit when you have a lot of items. If you surpass this limit, the game will crash. In today’s environment, memory is dirt cheap and the developers should simply double to 16 KB to mitigate this issue.

As this PTR is focused on bug fixes, please consider fixing these two issues. Thanks!

Any source or evidence for this being a problem? First I’m hearing of it, merely curious.
Mostly because playing modded Diablo 2 for the longest time, I’ve had dozens of characters over the course of two decades in many different mods and each mod had extended stash limits and larger inventories, and never once did my game ever exhibit odd behaviors.

There are many reports of people experiencing disappearance of items, largely affecting those who use mules to store numerous small charms and jewels.

The character file is being truncated to make it 8kb or less. The character data (stats, health, quest info etc) is stored in the first 765 bytes. Byte 766 and on is reserved for item data.

In the words of Dorkly’s Sonic… Huh, neat.

I’ve never once had this issue, so I’ve never had a basis for looking up said issue. Wonder if there’s a catalyst required to meet the criteria to cause the issue?

Not sure, but I think the original game never was able to get up to 8KB, simply because it didn’t have enough spots to store that many items. Now that we went from 48 slots to 100 slots in our personal stash, there is a risk of reaching and exceeding the limit.

I’m guessing it’s a hardcoded limit of the original game code.

Hi,

I’m not convinced this issue is just off-line or also on-line?
I still have issues with items going missing when going from switch to PC to organize my stashes. Not sure if it’s the shared stash or the sync between the console and PC that’s the issue.?? It is much rarer, but not as rare as find an nice item… ugh… maybe 1 in 30 transfers I loose something…

Wish they had server side logging and “report issue” right in the game so they could gather all the info themselves…

I did look at the issues they fixed, nice to see fixing… But, I have not run into any of those myself…

Wonder if it really some hairy issue that’s not just the size of the store… maybe that’s why they not telling if they are working on it? Whish they would at least say it not reproduceable or known issue or what ever…?

-later.

I can approve it did delete my amulets and rings once.
I had crafted full stash of amulets and rings, and even on character inventory.
Then one day I open up the character and see empty spaces in stash and I did not sell or lost them. I am pretty precise player. It was reported by many players that it can happen.
Probably it can trigger with greater probability when you have those crafted amulets, since those can have up to 8 mods on 1x1 inventory space? so more memory size needed per 1x1 square? Not sure, just thinking.

It seems connected to item amount mostly, so people who carry tons of one slot items encounter it more than others.
