will we ever see compatibility with linux
becoming linux compatible would only benefit blizzard overall as they are currently just limiting their market by not expanding into the land of linux.
While I would love it if they made the game Linux compatible, there is basically zero chance of it happening. They won’t make the game compatible with Apple computers, which has many times more user base than Linux users. Granted there are many hurdles that Apple has blocking that path. But even then, the user base of Apple + Linux users is still a small fraction compared to the behemoth amount of Windows users.
The simple reason is there is no money incentive to do so. They’d easily spend more money paying the developers to port the game over than they’d make from the microscopic Linux user base. The same applies to Apple.
its pretty sad as the only reason i am using windows is because of the lack of compatibility with biggers games that don’t allow proton, though wine and lutris work, and wasnt the hardest to get running, it does not run as good there than compared to on windows
linux has gotten really far when it comes to gaming and ease of use, so at some point hopefully soon more people will switch or want to switch to linux but only gaming compatibility is holding them back
not getting ready for linux seems counter productive in the long run, i can understand the whole apple os part as they are rather closed off and only want their stuff to run their stuff and not cooperate with others
but linux is open source and the community are more than willing to work with blizzard to get the thing going from what i can tell its more of stubborness and resistance to change that keeps the behemoth from working towards it
guess all i can do is wish upon a star and click my heels together 3 times
I really don’t see it happening with this game because of the amount of work involved. On a positive note, I’ve been running it on linux since the beta.
tried running it on Zorin os, it does work, but it sometimes felt off cant really expain it well. and teleporting in high speed trough river of flames gave me some beautiful black squares til i entered chaos sanctuary or stopped teleporting and letting it load proporly
