I really like the graphics of D2:R. They kept it true to the original, but they added a lot of detail. I REALLY dislike most of the new sounds. There are countless little problems with them. I request a “Legacy Sound Mode”, where I can play with D2:R graphics AND legacy sounds/music. Technically it should be easy and fast to implement. I simply can’t stand some of those new sounds. While graphics in D2:R is a VAST improvement upon D2:LoD, the same can’t be said about sounds, which often feel wrong. Instead of additional work on D2:R sounds just give players an OPTION to play with modern graphics and legacy sounds.
i was unaware of the sound change as everything… sounds the same to me.
I think the level sound has a bit of a gem drop ding to it that wasn’t in legacy but haven’t really noticed much rise different.
There are many small sound changes here and there and most of them feel worse. They not only remastered sounds, but they also added some high frequency details, which makes audio feel FAR more “sparky” or higher in pitch, especially on 10-30k headphones.
I notice it with teleport, I much prefer the old teleport sound. When I’m looking for durance level 3, sometimes I just switch to the old graphics while I tele like a madman.
The gold pickup sound is one of the more noticeable ones.
i would have to put on LoD and d2:r at the same time and listen.
i assure you i played enough LoD but the sounds really didn’t seem different to me, i’m only on audio technicas that are… 6 years old.
I agree, this the only thread I found talking about this…
I noticed how the sounds from legacy sound wayyyy cooler, ie: amulet drop sound really nice compared to the new sound. I also find that it’s less fatiguing. Some of the maps sound more relaxing, like the ambient sounds from act 2 and act 3 town are very tame compared to new version.
I would also like to play d2r with the updated graphics, but with legacy sounds.
I can agree with this. Resurrected sound is way less crisp.
Guys, just go to the audio options and check the audio reverb option.
For those that feel the act music is too much indepth and ambient sounds are too crisp if you have reverb ticked untick it…
same for ppl that say the sound is flat when compared to the original.
Thing is original d2 had support for 3D sound that could only work on Creative, Aureal3D cards and their clones. those that had such cards originally with win 98 or winXP had 3D sound enabled by default. and the ingame sounds and music had “more depth” or were “more crispy”. Those that played original D2:LoD on integrated soundcards usually had the 3D sound option grayed out and couldn’t enable it, and now set everything to “enabled” on their new rigs including sound reverbation, and experience 3D sound how it was originally esigned, and say “that’s not what i heard in the original”… and all of you are correct.
TL:DR
go to D2R sound options and “change” sound reverb. setting. if you have it on, set it to off, if you had it off set it to on.
the downside of enabling reverbation is game sound stuterring on lower end devices, since additional sound buffers from 17-128 nessecary for 3D sound are emulated on your CPU, instead of going from the soundcard, since most soundcards theese days don’t have more than 16 buffers ( can’t play more than 16 sounds simultaneously).
Sounds the same with that tbh,
the difference is slight, and not noticable everywhere, only at certain places… for example cold projectiles such as ice blast are heard differently, when it’s used.
It is more than slight. There are a quite a few changes, lots of sounds that as a kid I don’t remeber being as loud or assertive so oftentimes I’ll switch to legacy to compare…
I’d like for this to be an option, similar to Halo MCC having the option for remastered graphics with legacy sounds.
