Larzuk question

Will Larz always roll the max# of sockets in an item on all 3 difficulties or does it vary across Normal, nightmare and Hell?

thanks!

Same, max always, no difference.

Cheers

I read Normal on a Monarch caps at 3. Confirm/Deny?

From reading the messages below I’m gonna go with deny.

The number of sockets from the socket quest is not affected by the difficulty level, only by the ilvl of the item, which is based on the mlvl of the monster that drops it. Your Clvl and the difficulty level of the quest reward has nothing to do with the number of sockets you get. You can use the Normal quest reward on a Crystal Sword and get 6 sockets, or the Hell quest reward and get 3, depending on the ilvl of the swords used.

Buty care about Item level . For example Crystal sword from hell will always have 6 socket and if you want 4 socket you must have this sword from ACT 1+2 NM or Normal COWS.

The Larz quest will always give the maximum number of sockets that a item can have regardless of difficulty

item lvl can restrict max sockets. So while a crystal sword you found in hell will get 6 socs from any difficulty Larzuk; a norm cow cs will only get 4 socs from any difficulty larzuk.

Double check item lvl relation to max sox if you have to.

The only thing that will affect how many sockets there will be is the ilvl.

Act V: Quest 1: Siege on Harrogath (Add Sockets)
You cannot use the Add Socket Quest reward on Socketed Items.

You can only add Sockets to items that allow Sockets.

Specifically, it does not matter in which difficulty the quest reward is used. The outcome is the same regardless.

Larzuk adds the maximum number of sockets to regular items, based on: Base Item, Item Type, and item’s (creation) level. The latter, which is often referred to as the ‘ilvl’, is determined by the source that dropped the item (monster’s level if dropped from a monster). It makes no difference if the item is low (Cracked, Crude, Damaged, Low Quality), normal or high quality (Superior). Ethereal does not affect the outcome either. Again, only base item, item type and ilvl matter. NOTE: Because of the dependency on ilvl, your item may get fewer sockets than the inherent maximum (‘Sockets’) which is listed on the [Weapons and Armor] pages, if the ilvl is not sufficiently high. Use ilvl > 40 if you want the inherent maximum sockets in general.

Magic Items will receive 1 or 2 Sockets with probability of either assuming that they are possible given the rules for normal. So you’ll either get 1 Socket or 2.

Set Items, Rare Items, Unique Items, and Crafted Items add 1 Socket (1 Socket Max).

There is a way to guarantee a lesser number of sockets on an item, but requires some tricks.

You need to first find that item as cracked, broken, etc. quality. Then you use the cube recipes;
1 Eld Rune + 1 Chipped Gem + Low Quality Weapon = Normal Quality Weapon of same type
ilvl = 1. That is, regardless of what the ilvl was beforehand, it will be set to 1.

1 El Rune + 1 Chipped Gem + Low Quality Armor = Normal Quality Armor of same type
ilvl = 1. That is, regardless of what the ilvl was beforehand, it will be set to 1.

These guarantee the item level will be 1 and thus, you will only get the highest number of sockets based on item level 1. So if you need a 3 socket Archon Plate, for example, you could do the above to guarantee 3 sockets.

Here is a list of what sockets a item can have

As you cant see the ilvls on items (they are hidden) you need to farm zones that have monsters with those ilvls.

Fail!
I took a broadsword to larzs he gave me a 3 sock broadsword.
Wasted my socket quest after reading your post.
From start of game I looked for 4 soc swords any.
I put a broad sword dropped in act 1 or 1 in chest to use at Lars if I did not find one.
That what I used Lars game me 3 sock sword.

I didn’t bother to read the thread other than the first few replies since they were wrong.

Larzuk will always give max sockets to a normal/superior quality item Based on the area level in which the item was found/associated ILVL of the item
So you can get lower sockets because the item was found in a2 norm vs a5 hell. You need to look this up to know exactly. just type sockets and area level into google and the list should come up. This is why people ask for an ILVL indicator/display on the items now because it allows people to know where the item was found/how many sockets they can expect when buying the item from other players. An example of this is finding a partizan in normal cows. It will get 4os, but if you were to find it in a5 hell it would get more.

This is the answer you are looking for. Feel free to reply with any other related questions.

Use a long sword from normal. Common drop. It will get 4 sockets MAX. Pretty much ALL items in normal can have MAX 3 sockets when they drop. Larzuk can yield more sockets if socketed using that quest reward–if have proper weapon. I pick up long sword in A3 or higher and use that for Larzuk (always got 4 sockets so far).

Alternatively, you can use a 2-socket MELEE weapon (sword, ax, spear/polearm, whatever) to make Strength (Amn-Tir). This is level 25 also.

You do realize you just necro’d a 2 year old topic?

Arreat Summit will provide you with socketing info

the level of sockets is determined by the items i level

https://diablo2.diablowiki.net/Sockets#Sockets_by_Number

while technically a monarch below item lvl 41 will cap at 3 sockets. monarch cant drop below ilvl 72

so unless u use cube recipe to change a low quality a cracked/ damaged to a normal quality and set it to ilvl 1. its it can only roll 4 soc from larsuk
