Ladder 4 need to add stack for gem/runes

Diablo 3, 4 and immortal have gem stack, diablo 1 and 2 modded got stacks too, you could increase stash 2 times but rune/gems remain better, d2r classic players cry with small chest and other players create lots of mules every ladder trying to fix this problem, i understand that when diablo 2 launched create things like that could be very difficult but now it is 20 years latter and even modders easily add stacks to potion, gems, runes, keys and others things, i urge developers to put stack at least to 20 gems/ runes, that will fix stash problem for both classic and lod players.

Them not doing it Probably has to do with the issue where other players are reporting items disappearing from their stash if they fill it up with amulets or rings. Something about a character file only being 8kb big and my guess is stacking would cause a lot of issues in D2R, well at least at first.

D3/D4 gems are bind on account, which makes it a lot safer to stack them.

The best we can hope for is a special shared stash tab specifically for runes and gems. “Under the hood”, the gems and runes would each place in a cell like normal. “Above the hood”, we’d see each gem and rune with a # appended to it, and ones that don’t have any, they’d be faded with a 0. And there’d be a maximum for each.

I’d welcome a special stash tab for gems/runes… I’m already using at least one shared tab, at most two for runes and gems.

That’s bs. I get that there might be a proprietary binary format but you can change it. It just requires versioning the file and running a conversion routine on the file. We did this all the time on the MUD I ran back in 1995.

That could fix our problems too, good idea.

It’s not my idea, I’m just keeping it alive. But thanks.

Would you be opposed to getting rid of gems as a requirement for crafting and upping items and just have them be a resource once can pick up and sell for gold?

I would love it if they’d get rid of the gem requirement for upgrading runes. There are plenty of other recipes that utilize gems. Also, make it a flat 2x runes across the board for upping runes. If we’re going to be subjected to space limitations, this will help the stash space problem. It’s not like making runes below Pul require only 2 runes to upgrade is going to make high runes that much more common than they already are.

As far as a gem requirement for upgrading item bases, adding sockets and crafting, I think that’s perfectly fine.

Inventory size should be revisited in general like I said in another thread. Nothing about the current inventory makes sense other than limiting charms which can easily be done like Gheed’s so as not to introduce a game balance issue. There could even be a separate charm bag/holder thingie. Inventory size should be increased to be on par with other games. It’s just a nuisance right now. The current inventory isn’t even realistic because you can carry around several suits of extremely heavy armor. If we’re not going to be realistic then I don’t see why this can’t be done.

Then you just pick up every rune that drops ez watered down noob mode

No thanks. Organizing Gems/Runes is one of my favorite pass times.

Having to PHYSICALLY do things in games that modern games lack, and much of why I don’t play them. I personally love inventory Tetris. It’s a classic. Hell it’s much of why I’d love to have another 30 character slots. More Tetris.

And FYI this isn’t sarcasm. I just enjoy inventory management. It’s an actual skill folks. The guy that takes 3 seconds to fix inventory after a run is better than the guy that takes 30.

Skill Diff. One of the few this game has to begin with lol.

Nope it’s perfect. It makes you actually use your brain for something other than a counterbalance. Memorizing every drop, and knowing what is worth looting to ID is a major part of D2.

Arguably the biggest skill the game has is quick loot assessment, More space would absolutely ruin the game. Just like those mods did. I HATED PoD/PD2. Liked almost none of the changes they made. Hell as much as I complain about D2R it’s WAAAAAAY better than those crappy mods.

Only on multiplayer games, lot of people play solo or with friends, im one of then, and that will not happen because people will start to try to get every rune like they do to Hr, only the quickest will catch if they are playing public games, blizz could bring other solutions to that problem too.

You should also write your messages on scrolls and send them via carrier pigeons too just for the extra challenge. Skip the car or bus, ride a horse to work. Heck, skip the horse and walk. For extra challenge, walk backwards. This is D2 player logic.

Not all hurdles are negative, just as not all hurdles are positive, there is a discussion to be had on what hurdles are important for the game’s spirit and what hurdles should be removed.
In the case of the stacking of gems, runes, special keys, essences, tokens and greater evil body parts (did I forget anything), I don’t see a good argument to forbid their stacking (I’d say there is more of a discussion to be had on stack size) in the stash, or even in the inventory.
The usual counterarguments are the economy (let’s be honest, it’s not going to make a dent in it) and that hurdles are good (if we compare to similar items in Path of Exile, we can see there’s nothing wrong with stacking them).
At the moment, I think the only issue is development which may be trickier than it appears to us. I do hope they get us something out soon, though.

That’s a lot of jargon to verbosely explain “game design”. Well-designed games that people love doesn’t have the kinds of discussions that occur in D2. For a game that is over 20 years old, this is sketchy. The fact that two games have been released after this one that have also received a lot of negative feedback suggest the team(s) responsible for this franchise are questionable. Why is it I can play a game like Cuphead, Stardew Valley, Hades and many others and think to myself “Wow, this game is great, I wouldn’t change a thing.” That’s how you know a game is well-designed. Blizzard needs to hire a real team that knows what it is doing with good game design with this franchise or sunset it. All the games in the Diablo series with the exception of the first one feel like it was just slapped together without a holistic vision. The artwork is great, and I love the universe but that’s not what makes a good game. Gameplay does. Games like Torchlight 2 feel infinitely more polished. The fact games like D2, D3, Diablo Immortal and probably soon D4 are going to change a zillion times after initial launch is a testament to this.

Why yes it is. Welcome to D2. You new here? If you are looking for that stuff D3/4 are -----> way.
