As oppose to using the F1-F8, have any of you remapped these buttons?
1-4 for UI panels, QWER for potions, Tilde(~) for belt, ASDFG/ZXCV for Skills, Tab to swap weapons, Capslock to Run/walk, Spacebar to stand still, Alt/Shift to show items.
I may mimic this. My PC crapped out on me so I’ve been playing on a laptop. I think having the buttons more concentrated may help me out a bit.
Always. I use Q,W,E,R,A,S,D,F,Z,X,C,V for skills.
Caps lock for sweapon switch
So what do you guys use when you remap buttons that are already assigned? For instance using R for run/walk?

If the hotkey isn’t used by me then I leave it blank. Like the Select Next/Previous skill on mousewheel. I assign ‘A’ to both of those, then assign ‘A’ back to Skill 1 to remove the keybinds.
This way I can use the scrollwheel to look through things without it constantly changing my skills.
I remap only 3 skills to mouse wheel, other are stay on F buttons. F1-4 for manual use, other F are for mouse remapping (because all games think that mouse have only 3 buttons). That’s all.
F1-F4 leave as is, F5-F8 I remap as secondary to QWER and the other skills as well. The thing is currently it seems that it is a bugged funtionality and if you do as I suggest you will remap and it will be saved and worked even if you reload your client. But the game will still show wrong assignments on the UI.
I had another thought - is a controller any better at all than the keyboard and mouse?
I have my potions and skills all on the num pad since I am lefthanded. My potions are 1,2,3, enter and my skills are 4,5,6,7,8,9,/,*,-. On 0 I do free attack while standing and show items is picture down and swap weapons is end. I dont know if the last are the right english expressions for Ende and Bild runter.
1 - 6 are bound to my mouse thumb buttons (spells). Qwer, asd, zxcv are my rest spells. 7890 are for pots. I do use a very old keyboard logitech g15 which has 6 buttons on left side of keyboard that are bound to 7890
Has anyone tried playing with a controller?
If I decided to give that a shot, would it work ok with a PS4 or Switch controller? Those are the only two that I have and I never hooked either one up to the laptop before.
yes it does work on a controller. Best with melee characters. Kind of awkward with spellcasters since other spells require you to target but other than that controller feels great and natural. A plus for controller is you can cast your skills instantly with a press of a button instead of selecting a skill and clicking it again with a mouse. Lastly, inventory management with a controller is kind of a mess right now so watch out.
Yeah, I tried it the other night. I was sort of screwed off the bat because I couldn’t even figure out how to map my spells with the controller UI. My inventory stashes are a complete mess right now, and it is so much quick (for me) to organize it with a mouse.
- Find out which keyboard and mouse buttons are the most comfortable for YOU. “Comfortable” means that can find and press them easily without looking at the keyboard/mouse.
- Assign the most frequently used actions to the most comfortable buttons.
Those who can touch type usually find the “home row” to be the most comfortable keys: the home row is ASDF for the left hand and JKL; for the right hand. They can press the keys of the “home row” and any other key around it without looking at the keyboard.
If you change between the controller and m&kb, will it save your hot keys and whatnot? Or will the game get confused and revert back to default?
