Keep getting d/c

been d/c 37 times in the past 3 days. what’s goin on with the server?

The chances of the issue being the server are slim to none, which is especially true if there aren’t very many others complaining about the same issue. The issue is more likely a connection issue between the server and your computer, which is usually in the form of packet loss and/or excessive ping jitter.

The netcode in Diablo 2 (both the original game and Resurrected) is terrible at handling packet loss and excessive ping jitter. Any amount of packet loss and prolonged periods of high ping jitter will eventually lead to being disconnected from the server. For this reason, it is highly recommended to have a landline based internet provider (No cellular or satellite ISPs) and to use Ethernet to connect your computer to your router. (Avoid WIFI) Wireless connections are error-prone due to interference, so it’s best to avoid them when playing Diablo 2.

If you are curious, you can download winMTR and test your connection to Blizzard with the IPs of the region you play on:

Here are the D2:R game server IPs:

Region IP Address 2nd IP Address
North America 137.221.106.88 137.221.106.188
Europe 37.244.28.80 37.244.28.180
Asia 117.52.35.79 117.52.35.179

You’ll need to let winMTR run for a decent amount of time to hopefully reproduce any issues. You’ll also need to test each IP for the region you play on, you can run multiple instances of WinMTR at the same time. WinMTR will give a readout of every connection hop between your computer up to Blizzards public side of their network. It gives a readout of the min/average/max pings and total dropped packets for each hop. (Hops that report 100% loss can be ignored, as they are blocking ICMP requests. Modems/routers are normally configured to block ICMP traffic, so they will likely show 100% loss as well.)

If you find a significant amount of ping jitter and/or packet loss on your ISP’s side, which would be towards the top of the list, you can export the winMTR log and email your ISP the information, which they can use to hopefully resolve the issue(s)

ya just called my ISP. they said something is going on with my modem. they are sending a tech tomorrow.

Ah, a faulty modem will do it.

Diablo 2 is a great connection testing tool.
