I mean, I don’t think handling game creation properly is a change. All that’s being sought after here is something like bnet 1.0 smoothness. It’s not increased inventory space causing this…
Calm down, take a chill pill, you’ll be taking a dirt nap too early otherwise. The balance changes ARE NOT THE ISSUE! This would have still happened if they did not do balance changes. The issue is that the underlying code was built for region locked databases, not global unlocked databases that D2R shipped with.
They could have given Blessed Hammer +10,000,000% enhanced damage, and that still wouldn’t have caused this issue (perhaps another issue of integer overflow, but still not this issue).
I think I would prefer the patch and everything 100%. As much as it sucks to wait, I would prefer the first ladder be actually playable instead of, well, the usual…
I think they should roll out the balance changes from 2.4 asap and then do the database/game creation changes after that. Since that’s what seems to keep failing.
Online is back up and the character names are still all caps. Maybe they didn’t have to roll back everything and ladder is still on schedule? Would be awesome.
You actually want an unplayable game…so you can start ladder? You wouldn’t even be able to play so what would be the point?
I’d rather have a functioning game that doesn’t disconnect me every 2 minutes then get ladder and not even be able to play the damned thing. What’s wrong with you?
Somebody is super salty. Touch grass.
It’s playable now, so should be playable if they just reset the economy.
why are people so anxious for ladder? just play non ladder
if you are concerned about the “economy” there are still plenty of items you can find on non ladder that are worth a ton of value.
the build changes will also take effect on non ladder.
all ladder offers that non ladder doesnt… is a couple new runewords which isnt much to write home about
Nothing like a fresh economy to trade in. Even low-mid grade items are highly desirable for a while. It’s a trading frenzy. Love it.
meh. trading isnt nearly as “fun” as some people seem to think.
muling, listing items, waiting for offers, getting lowballed, blah blah blah
also if you WANT an item, they are also overpriced since its a new economy. so anything you gain… you are potentially spending more to. so it all equals out anyway
“Fun” is not objective. I find it very fun, and so does anyone else who is excited about ladder. You asked, I answered. Just because you don’t find it fun doesn’t take away from the fact that a fresh trading economy is the main reason people are excited about ladder.
and this is public forum…
its for debating and sharing opinions.
I expressed my opinion for them to just start ladder around 6-8 weeks ago when it became obvious that they went WAY over their heads with the ladder + balance changes at the same time.
If they had just launched a normal 2.3 ladder first and then play around with their balance ****, we would not be awaiting a huge problem-filled patch in the best month of the spring…
The whole thing is a great planning failure on the talking heads’ side. Big. Huge. Fail.
I’m unclear as to why you think I would dispute that. I’m explaining to you how some people have fun with ladder. You asked the question how it was possible. I answered it. It’s called a dialogue.
I think given what just happened yesterday, I’m cool waiting.
All characters I have randomly went all caps, there was a massive rollback. Honestly, some high school level development.
If I’m going to invest any time and energy into the ladder, it just has to work. I don’t care if it’s 2.4, but I also don’t want this type of crap to happen during it.
Well it shouldn’t bother you if we have a ladder and then you can just wait for one that goes really well in two or three ladders. You would be waiting the same amount of time. Just don’t take part in the not so good ladders.
I got news for you. Ladder availability isn’t tied to the patch content, it’s tied to the database being stable and not causing the myriad issues like it did this week (and continues to do so thanks to the all caps issue causing keybinds to be entirely broken). They could nix the 2.4 content, release ladder ASAP, and find that the game as a whole becomes unplayable due to the database issues being unresolved.
They need to fix the database problems before they release the 2.4 patch or start a ladder season. Players are chomping at the bit to get at that content update and the influx of players would absolutely destroy the ability to play with an unstable database. What worries me is that PezRadar’s post implies that they aren’t exactly rushing to fix the caps problem with the character names, which is problematic because that’s what is causing the keybinds to not stay saved anymore due to the associated files being for characters with lower case letters in their names but Battle.net has changed them to all uppercase, causing a character name to filename mismatch.
If you think players are going to stick to the game with broken keybinds, you’re sadly mistaken.
I’m assuming the patch is tied to the database upgrades in some way. Just launch the ladder. Playing has been fine for the past few months. Just launch the ladder. Patch or not I don’t really care. And if the database upgrades failed, they should just launch ladder anyway.
Anyone who would rather just wait for them to have everything right before they launch ladder can just skip the first ladder then. They’ll be waiting the same amount of time anyway and can do the second ladder when things are fixed.
It doesn’t make sense that the game would be unplayable just because they reset the economy. There is not going to be a mass influx of people. That time has passed.
You aren’t getting it. If they launched ladder now with both broken keybinds and an unstable and potentially unsafe database update, we’d be in the exact same boat we were in back in October with a broken game and very likely the inability to play for long stretches of time due to the game being down because the influx of players recked the database (again).
You don’t launch when your back end is unstable. Period.
