I don’t get much time to play, and my single player character I’ve been working on just disappeared after my power turned off for a second. Is this normal? Save files just get corrupted like that? The character file is still in the folder, the game just doesn’t recognize it. Is there any way to recover it?
Not currently to my knowledge. Very important to keep frequent save backups of your save folder for offline. High chance your shared stash file is corrupted too, and will prevent you from loading other characters until it’s deleted. One of the reasons I went back to bnet, got tired of worrying about making backups.
Almost sounds like Single Player is unplayable.
Do back ups next time.
I sadly dont think you can recover it if it got corrupted. My advice to you is to recreate the char in old d2 hero editor and then transfer it to d2r.
Zax beat me to it -
I have never had a SP file corrupt like that so I can’t comment on the frequent/event. Best way to recover from here is to download the old D2 Hero Editor and then download the item and character files from GGM (search on YouTube for guide video and link).
It’ll probably take, roughly, 15 minutes to actually create the new character and 30 minutes to get all the files downloaded
Just use hero editor to recreate your character the way it was before you lost it. No big deal nobody knows.![]()
Edit dam Zax beat us to it😂
Bro, single player is amazing. I tried on BNET, and every swing is laggy. Not as bad as old BNET, but when I swing, and 0.5 seconds later the monster gets hit…
I have filled my heart with hate
Too many variables though I would recommend right clicking the drive the game data was on and select properties then tools, and use the check disk feature in windows. Or from the cmd line, type chkdsk (letter of the drive in question) /r to see if there is an issue.
Was this on console or pc?
I heard about someone else having the same issue after a power blackout. I always make two backups of my chars after playing on single player, I would go crazy if I would lose all my chars and mules.
this sound like a pretty big flaw to have. if its single player they game only saves when u exit… dont see how this could lead to corruption,it shouldn’t be writing or reading anything from the save file after you load until the game until you hit “save an exit”
losing power should only take you back to the last time u hit save and exit.
and tons of games have autosaves and backups, it seems rather pathetic blizzard could not only break the old method and allow current saves, and also not have a new method for backups if it does try to autosave.
if a file is getting corrupted when u lose power that’s blizzards responsibility.
there is no reason any game should have both an autosave feature and not have backups.
Hey there. The same thing happened to me. After power shut my char disappeared, but I was able to restore it.
Just went to C:\Users\user\Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected
found my char saved files with .ctl, .d2s and .ma1 extensions. Those 3 were recently modified on the same date. So, right click on file > properties > Previous versions > Restore.
It helped me, hope it helps you.
Good Luck!
It’s worth noting that this will only work if Windows File History is enabled, the Diablo II Resurrected save folder is selected for backup and File History has been working.
But otherwise, good tip.
Haven’t heard of it. First time palying single player, tried to do a holy grail and just had a random pc reboot. all saves seem to be corrupted. it’s been over 2 years. what an amazing job blizzard. i love the game and come back to it for over 20 years but maybe it’s time to say good bye forever. this is ridiculous this hasn’t been fixed.
If all of your characters won’t load, even newly created ones, then it’s very likely due to a corrupted shared stash file. You can try renaming the file to see if that helps.
1: Navigate to C:\Users\YourUserFolder\Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected\
2:
For Softcore:
- Rename “SharedStashSoftCoreV2.d2i” to “SharedStashSoftCoreV2.d2i.old”.
For hardcore:
- Rename “SharedStashHardCoreV2.d2i” to “SharedStashHardCoreV2.d2i.old”.
A new stash file will be created the next time the game loads.
If your characters are able to load afterwards, that confirms a corrupted shared stash. And as you may have guessed by now, this means you’ve effectively lost everything that was in the shared stash.
Also, you are ultimately the one that is responsible for keeping tabs on your data. Regularly backing up the folder C:\Users\YourUserFolder\Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected\ will give you a way to restore character files in the event that something goes wrong, like a random computer restart due to power failure or something else.
Everyone glosses over this comment, but it was the moment the planning began.
