most folks out there just put a single 1 point wonder into thunderstorm and say no matter how high my FCR is, thunderstorm is not attacking faster, so it has to be bugged…
quite on the contrary… thunderstorm can attack faster it’s just not governed by FCR…
it actually is governed by the skill level itself and a bit complicated mathematical formula, though the good news is folks from maxroll applied the formula correctly to their d2 planner, though it’s not obvius to view…
you have to expand the “damage per second” tooltip under thunderstorm in “calculations” tab, and hover over the spell row. the popup window will say the number of frames a thunderstorm can occour… this value goes down by lvl ( meaning skill strikes more frequently)
a rough estimation is that lvl 1 thunderstorm strikes every 110 frames ( we’re talking game engine frames rather than your fps game engine is capped at 25 frames per second) so roughly every 4.4 seconds
on lvl 56 which is max + thunderstorm equipment + battle command + skill shrine is 26 frames per attack, so roughly 1.04 seconds a thunderstrike occurs.
the real fun can be achived in single player, where one is able to fully utilize the skill ( by means of hero editor once could bump the thundrstorm skill lvl to 99) this could mean 22 frames per attack or roughly a 0.88 second delay between each thunderstrike,
the difference between dealy of 4.4 seconds 1.04 seconds and 0.88 of a second is quite noticable in game. it’s a difference between:
-dude does this actually attack?! on slvl1
to:
-medicore attack rate on slvl 56
to
dude this actually does strike often!! on slvl 99
Well i’m just explaining how things are right now, and where to look for proper attack rate at a given slvl on maxroll,
on the other hand anything is possible with modding, i myself managed to do some wicked stuff with modding as well, yet the basic game has some yet unpopular true gems of OP as is…
if i remeber right folks stumble here and don’t know of this fact… and some chart you speak of lying somewhere in some sinkhole backwater of the internet apperently wasn’t found by nor by them or by me…
It is maybe one of the worst spells in the game, needs a rework. Requires waaay too many points to do almost no damage. I knew when they just added synergy bonuses to it without changing the skill it wouldn’t work, because you cannot sacrifice that many points esp on a skill like static field. I hope they can be more creative with it, but that’s asking a lot.
Something channeled like D4 Druid Lightning that increases in area and frequency the longer it’s channeled and, of course, a damage boost to bring it in line with other lightning skills might work.
Be like teleport in to mob area, begin channel, nearby mobs die first, then it radiates outward clearing a large chunk of screen and then move to next area. But even then Nova is more effcient at the same thing
all you gotta google is “Diablo 2 Thunderstorm chart”
and ding ding ding https www theamazonbasin com/wiki/index.php/Thunder_Storm
EDIT: Nymerius, may wanna visit my wish list thread, i did address a solid suggestion to make T-Storm greater :)…its 1 of those skills lacking that i covered
How about complete rework and make it work like Blizzard?
If they would make this skill good in current form then it could become too op, buff for already too strong Nova or Lightning Sorcs or a walking simulator. People already complained about Auradin when it cleared whole screen without touching buttons.
I’ve had thunderstorm take down hell Diablo in one shot. Of course after static, but still. It’s not as bad as everyone thinks if you build around it. It’s seemingly meant to be a passive buff you can’t control, so I’ve done my best to change that with my build.
YouTube search my “D2:R Thunderstorm build | Static Storm Sorceress”
She looks amazing, unlike other normal sorcs, and can clear exceptionally well while being off-meta. She takes out cows mega fast, and wrecks Chaos Sanctuary.
i noticed the attack speed increases after leveling it, but the reason it will always be mid at best is that it only hits one target at a time. It doesn’t really live up to the “thunderstorm” name when you don’t see thunder strikes going off constantly
It should randomly strike enemies in the radius but do so much faster.
