If the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) wins their lawsuit against LBRY, Ripple and potentially Odysee, it will set a legal precedence that would allow Blizzard and other gaming companies have JSP shut down, and not for reasons we would normally think, such as TM violations. Right now Fool’s Gold is classified by the SEC as a “Medium of Exchange and Stores of Value”. The SEC is relabeling digital currency/tokens as Security Contracts, which could lead to JSP being subjected to civil and criminal liability.
I came across this information yesterday in a conversation between two lawyers. The question was ask if this would include gaming websites that sell digital currency to be used to exchange for in game items. The lawyer familiar with the current lawsuit said yes. Tips and donations for the purpose of exchange are included.
If the SEC succeeds, JSP will be committing a Federal Crime.
If you’re an expert on currency laws within the G20 you should contact the legal teams of all parties involved and let them know that it’s just a matter of internet domains. I’m sure they’d appreciate your knowledge on the matter and the simplicity of solving it.
However, shutting down an illegal internet operation is very difficult even for the FBI. They can’t even shut down t-word (I’m not gonna write that word here, but I mean that thing you fight in counter strike) sites because they move all their servers and operations to some country that is hostile to the US and outside of their influence. It’s a step on the right direction, but I’m a little skeptical if the effects are going to be immediate. If it is, that will be nice. The last thing we need is people ruining a brand new game (D2R) with the forum gold they accumulated over the past few decades.
In my opinion, JSP is very likely to be under control, or connected to in some way, some mafia that runs all sorts of scams and illegal operations on the internet, stealing video game accounts and RMT being only one of them. You may think I’m a conspiracy theorist for saying that and that’s fair, but it’s a haven for botters and many of those botters are connected, directly or indirectly, to scammers. Even if JSP is indeed shut down, I fear that it may rise again with some other name, perhaps in the more hidden confines of the internet.
Were talking about a website that takes Paypal, MC and Visa. It’s as simple as going to his house and arresting him and seizing all his assets. We are talking about currency here, not Ts that the trillion dollar weapon’s industry makes money off. Not wanting to be rude here, but people need to learn how the real world works. Banking, Military Weapons, Big Tech and Big Pharma rule our world.
paul tjaulberg is a scumbag pos that ripped off actual talented devs like mousepad.
if I would say what I want to happen to him here, my account would be closed for volatile language.
he is a person that feeds off the hard work and determination of other people, and is nothing more then a leech to society. he is literally the embodiment of hedge funds in videogames.
Of course I agree with you. I was referring to the possibility of they changing their way of operations to accept crypto instead of money and moving to some place where law is lax and the influence of the US is smaller. That’s what most scammers do.
generally it is a matter of jurisdiction for a law to apply
if his actions happened not in US jurisdiction, the US has no legitimacy to act.
but sure man, the CIA is gonna start apprehending for example, chinese nationals and seize their assets for actions done in china, that may violate US law, but not chinese law.
Sadly not going to happen. Blizzard isn’t going to pour that much money into legal action for the sake of D2 and D2:R. D2:R is not a game that will be getting updates other than bug fixes after release. Besides selling the game once, they aren’t incentivized to keep the game free of d2jsp since they aren’t selling cosmetics, expansion packs, etc. Heck, if D2:R was never released, the Diablo franchise would have still gone on with D4. D2:R is really just a quick cash out by Blizzard, since they have to do bare minimum development, and a way to earn some points from the fans by throwing them a bone after asking for it for over a decade.
Also, if anything, D2:R probably has all the same issues with bots, bugged items like Grief of Doom, etc. that d2jsp is honestly one of the lowest priorities that Blizzard should go for anyways. To be totally honest, d2jsp brings something that D2 and D2:R severely lacks… a tradable currency which even legit players can use when it’s unrealistic to trade by pure bartering.
For example, if I grinded away and collected 120 perfect gems, some person rolling baal charms may want that. However, that person rolling baal charms may not have the HoZ that I want. And the person with the HoZ may not want the perfect gems that I have. So what do we do? And on top of that, it’s impossible to trade more than 40 perfect gems at one time anyways without a currency.
Before you can say we should be able to use in-game gold, the gold in D2 has very little value for a number of reasons. First and foremost, there is a maximum cap on gold for in your stash on and on your person. That prevents you from trading more than 990,000 gold at a given time, and that’s if you are level 99. Second, even without the cap, gold is lost upon death making it not a very safe form of currency to stock up on. You also lose a huge pile of it if you ever get PK’d. And third, gold as a currency is tied to how you can use it in-game… which is for repairing equipment, reviving mercenaries, and gambling. Only gambling actually uses any large amounts of gold, but most players don’t care about gambling because the items you get from it often suck and many of the best items (runewords) cannot be gambled to begin with. Also, gambling takes away from the main of the game anyways, which is killing monsters for loot - not talking to Gheed all day for it!
I think d2jsp is fine for trading. If you are angry about d2jsp being used as giving people an advantage from other games, well, your thinking is flawed. I can get an advantage just from having friends rush me, not even on d2jsp. Or friends that want to give me gear for free. Or friends that will help me out in D2 if I help them out with League of Legends. Or friends doing it if I tell them I’ll pay for their lunch tomorrow. I see no difference here.

Hello SEC, this is Blizzard Entertainment and 30 other gaming companies.
We just want you to know that D2JSP is selling illegal digital currency that is being used by 1 million of their users.
Hello Most Profitable Entertainment Industry On The Planet,
Thank you for the tip, we’ll look into it and take the appropriate action as this isn’t actionable by businesses, but is by the government due to it being about MONEY. We’ll contact Visa, Master Card, Paypal and their banking institution and prevent them first from doing business.
Paypal, MC and Visa are US companies. That’s how JSP gets paid. JSP is a US company and the owner is a born and raised US citizen. Your domain hypothesis is moot and you appear to know nothing of US laws and their reach.
If the SEC wins, it is only a matter of time until he is shut down, and no domain change will stop it from happening.
To be totally realistic, it’s called d2jsp for a reason. Does the site have other games? Yes. But what is the actual player count for those games? Absurdly low. You go check out the Age of Conan forum and you see threads with last posts from January 2017 on the first page. You check out Lord of the Rings Online, that’s from March 2018. You say that 30 other gaming companies will join? Most of them have moved on and left their games to die already, or have gone out of business. And most would care less that there are 5 people on a forum that is trying to trade for fee gees in their game lol.
You remind me of those people that have been waiting for 15+ years for the next rust storm to clear out the duped items in D2, saying every year that Blizzard will push the button soon and you better watch out! Blizzard doesn’t give a $hit, they are a greedy AF company and will only do it for money. If they aren’t going to make money from it, they won’t do it.
