I’m trying the amazon for the first time and I wonder if there is something I’m missing. I can’t go through a dungeon without having to go to town for repair, even if I bring a second weapon it’s not enough. How am I supposed to get around this annoyance, is it a game mechanic that I don’t understand yet? What is the meaning of it, is it supposed to be fun or challenging?
Javazons can be played melee and/or ranged. For ranged you lose 1 stack per throw. Later in the game you might find spears that replenish quantity, which helps with the throwing abilities.
While you don’t have some of those, you might want to melee attack more often than throw.
Okay. I had to force myself to play into nightmare killing one monster at the time, and now I must continue to do that to save javelins. This class is not for me. Thanks for your reply.
I can just tell you that it plays differently when you finally got some increased stack/repflenish javlins.
The skills don’t scale with base dmg, only the initial missile has the phys dmg, so even normal blue ones with those stats help you.
Charged strike will kill whole packs of mobs, and once you get Lightning Fury you will start seeing half screens/entire screens get wiped, in Nightmare at least Hell is a different story, as there are a lot of lightning immune mobs
wait for 2.4 they are upping bolts/arrows and thrown weapon quantities so that will help a bit.
it was meant to be a challenge but it’s from a time when game design often saw tedium as challenging.
First of, at the start of the game you don’t need to always throw javelins. Stabbing with them can kill weaker monsters just as well (and is actually quicker - because attack speed on stab is faster than throw)
If we look back at the origins of Diablo 2, the same situation was with casters.
You run out of mana, you go melee (notice how staves for example can sometimes roll 100s of elemental damage on them!). The OG idea is to manage your resources, use them sparingly. Amazon has a whole bunch of melee javelin\spear skills she was supposed to depend on.
But… patch 1.10 came in, gave casters mana pots at vendors, and kinda forgot to do anything with ammo (just increased bolts and arrows quantities, but not javelins).
Now, to be fair, it’s not really that bad for javazon, becaues her javelin throwing skills have AOE, so you don’t need that many javelins. And the fallback melee skills (charged strike, lightning strike) are very good.
Ah, you’re a Diablo 3 player I guess? Welcome to a better game. See, killing 1 monster at a time is not as bad as it seems. Sure, it’s generally slower, but characters that don’t have big AoE have other advantages. And every monster matters in this game, every monster can pose a thread, every monster can give significant XP or drop treasure. Many of us enjoy the slower pace of the game.
And as I said, amazon gets plenty of AoE with the right skills.
Killing one monster at a time is fun in Dark Souls, in Diablo that feels counterproductive because the fun comes from gearing up and playing effectively. Diablo is a slot machine, not a game where every single encounter is an epic moment.
No stress though, I will just not play it.
If you think rushing in this game need you more, you are mistaken. Worthiness is the RNG in this game. It’s true. Enjoy the game and don’t let the speed killing mentality overload you. Sometimes you need to step away or just walk chaos.
As Odin says, later in the game you will find ones like Titan’s Revenge that replenish quantity. You may still need a second stack of them to switch back and forth and prevent running out.
I say this having never played a Javazon, since I really am not a big fan of the zon in general, but they are my friends favorite character. So hopefully my knowledge is accurate.
Just get an eth Titan’s. And then a second eth Titan’s on swap for when the first one runs low. Problem solved.
“Just get” two eth titans. Akara is stocked right up! In all seriousness, good idea though if you can find them.
Christ, I’ve played the game for over a thousand hours, just not with amazon. Please don’t tell me how to enjoy the game. This forum is really something, you ask about a game mechanic and get a (bad) philosophy on how to live your life.
I was kind of joking there, I know how rare they are. True story, I started my first ever Javazon after finding an eth Titan’s because I just didn’t want it to go to waste. And now it’s one of my favourite builds to play.
If you build a Javazon right, and get just a bit of luck with gear drops (normal Titan’s Revenge will do just fine), you’ll be killing entire screens of monsters at a time even in Hell difficulty. The only challenge will be figuring out how to deal with lightning immunes.
Just buy like 3 to 4 stacks of white javelins from charsi starting out. Pick up any javelins you find off monsters.
Having a quantity on arrows, bolts, and throwing weapons is one of the dumbest things in the game. At least they’re finally increasing them, but sheesh… Who enjoys holding extra arrows and buying more?
In wow it was kind of okay, since you could get better quivers that held more / increased more attack speed.
Maybe having normal quantities < NM < Hell would be nice, with bell having absurd amounts. Even with Eth titans you still end up usually having to have multiple of them to survive farming.
Yeah! Being a real warrior, and only having enough to carry 2 or three javelins would be too realistic, and would suck. Games should just ignore reality, and make everything unlimited. Who in their right mind would want to play a realistic game? What losers…
Games like Couner Strike would just be waaaay better if ammunition was unlimited and you didn’t need to reload or anything so you could just pwn n00bs…
Ignore it, if you want to give it another shot sometime you can grab some blue replenish javs from the vendor for throwing and use whatever you already have for melee
I have picked up 2 javelins with higher stack and replenishing, it goes much longer between repairs now. And very good to know that Lightning Fury doesn’t scale with weapon damage. Thanks a lot, everybody. It suddenly picked up a lot here, not giving up yet.
Another question, is Jab a skill that I should max out to counter immunities in Hell, or is there another skill I can use?
Completely different genre, but you don’t really run out of ammo in FPS games unless it’s an OP gun like a rocket launcher.
Repairing or waiting for replenish quantity on Javas / ensuring you don’t throw too many into packs in a game where you’re literally slaying giant mobs of monsters doesn’t really align with the gameplay.
But, I guess we found the one person who enjoys it. Good for you. When the patch comes out make sure you throw your arrows on the ground and swap them for a new one after using only 250 just so you can keep the awesome fun of having an absurdly limited amount of arrows in a hack-and-slash while you’re at it
