I am a new player and have just created my second Amazon and I want to try the Javazon build.
When I check the build recommended by Icy Veins they recommend putting one point, and only one point, in every “Passive and Magic” skills. Everything else goes into the “Javelin and Spear” skills.
I would like to understand the reasoning behind doing this.
The highest character I have had so far is only level 14 so I am totally unfamiliar with any of the later parts of the game. It takes a lot of time to experiment with different allocations of skill points to find the “best” one. So I am hoping I can save some time by asking others for help.
Thank you.
Passive and magical skills can be useful.
Slow missiles help dodge attacks
Decoy helps group monsters around the decoy to be swept away by lightning fury
The valkyrie is yet another extra blocker to stop mobs from attacking you with the merc.
Dodge, avoid and Evade are passive defenses for you to reduce the damage taken.
Pierce causes his attacks to pass through one enemy and hit the next for even more damage.
Part of it is also related to all the +skill gear you will get so level 1 can get bumped up to 10 or more depending on your gear, so only one point is really needed

I will tell you this. IMO Amazons are not easy to level up. They are really powerful once you get to like level 40+, or at least Javazons. I think its actually easier to level as a Bowazon.
But yeah, some skills are called 1 point wonders, because the first point gets you a sizable advantage and then each additional point just adds a small bonus to that. And as said, you will get items that add +1 to all skills, which will improve those skills without putting points into them.

Thank you very much. Now I understand.
Lol those guides are for end game, we are all rocking at 90+… So if level 14 is your highest ever, you gotta understand this game more. Javazons are actually on the easier side for self play, certainly much easier than bowazons which is amongst the most difficult builds to self level…
I have level 85 and above bowazons and javazons. You will not be able to access sunder charms that disable monster immunities until you complete Hell difficulty , so you will have to have strategies to deal with lightning immune monsters through much of Hell.
While levelling remember that you get 3 chances to respec, so don’t be afraid to put a few points into the cold bow tree so that you have an alternative to lighting which is the main attack of a javazon. (Especially if you get a great bow) it is easy to just hit the W button and switch weapons on the fly. Then change your skills when you are at end game.
I put or make happen with skill granting items 17 points minimum into the Valkyrie because she gains the best type of weapon at that level. She is the tank of tanks imo and survives long after the mercenary has died, plus she can be recast at a click of a button. The other passive I put more than one point in for a javazon is critical strike which grants a chance to do double damage.
I also recommend raising mana a least a bit. That is the fuel to your attacks.

Sunders can drop in Nightmare. The item level is 69, as long as there area is terrorized and you are high enough level.
It’s not just about item level. The monsters have to be able to drop from the desecrated treasure class to drop the charms. I’m pretty sure that only hell monsters are flagged for that.
I am almost certain I found my first sunder last season in NM doing WSK runs. However, I cannot find any concrete info on that except for the drop calculator on maxroll which does show it can drop in NM if the zone is terrorized
I’m kind of on the fence now… I haven’t found one yet this season, but I’ve been really slow.
Wow, I didn’t know that. They never dropped for me in nightmare.
Man… now I am kind of second guessing myself. I just went through my screenshots because I thought I captured that, but couldn’t find it. Maxroll does show it as possible, not sure if it’s a solid resource for this item though.
it’s not possible. the only monsters that have a TC for TZs in nightmare listed are all boss monsters (note, different from act bosses). the only way for nightmare monsters to get access to sunder charms would be through TC upgrading, but they dont have the TC to upgrade to begin with. for the boss monsters, the last nightmare TC’s level is set to the same maximum level TZ’s can be in nightmare, so bosses cannot upgrade into the hell TCs to access sunder charms either
In the end you want to have one point spent into most of the passive skills but for leveling this is a decision between “do I want to deal more damage or do I want to have more defensives”. 5 or 6 points less in Java skills can make a huge difference at early levels.
I don’t know Javazon guides at all and if they are actualized for the current season with its new Hit Delay mechanics. Chainlightning Strike is probably better now than Lightning Fury (at least for leveling). You can max out the necessary Java skills Chainlightning and it’s synergies earlier than you could do with losing 20 points to Lightning Fury. The very low limited amount of “charges” of the javelins you find while leveling makes Lightning Fury also nasty hello-again-charsi skill.
If you are questing without a team, I would recommend to max out Plague Javelin and it’s synergy first, as your primary damage skill. The third skill that has to be maxed is Lightning Fury (which is usually done the moment you enter hell difficulty), since it deals a lot of damage even without synergies and can handle large groups of poison resitant/immune monstery very well.
Travincal and Ancients become very easy with poison damage while pure lightning builds can not defeat them (unless you have a superhero merc).
