It's time we talk about a pvp patch

Anyone who has played LOD for the past 20 years knows pvp kept the game alive. Most pvmer’s are seasonal players and play for 2 weeks on ladder reset before switching to POE. I still don’t understand why we keep ignoring this fact Blizzard.

What am I proposing?

Ranked pvp matchmaking with voice chat and different lobbies such as solo, team and ffa

This will DRASTICALLY increase your game longevity and can even add possible esport opportunities to your games, ie more promotion.

So stop ignoring us and give the true D2 players what they want and you will be rewarded

I agree that a PVP Arena (DM3.DS1 specifically) would be SICK.

I tried to build a video showcasing its potiential, but Blizzard decided to remove TC/IP so this is the best I could come up with, and it doesn’t even do it justice.

1 V 1, 2 v 2, 3 v 3, and 8 person FFA in this Arena would be highly addicting.

I guess I’ll just have to make it in UE5 myself :pensive:

Yep, really sucks that they removed it. Giant loss for modding, people with poor connection to the Bnet servers, PvP too.

There’s even remnants of hardcoded PvP stuff they moved to softcode in difficultylevels.txt, they added columns for “PlayerDamagePercentVSPlayer” and other similar ones like players vs mercs, pets vs players, etc. Unfortunately they were rendered useless with the removal of TCP/IP, maybe there’s some modding scenarios where you could flag a monster as a player to have some additional flexibility with damage percents but I don’t know.

It’d be cool if they officially resupport TCP/IP but I doubt they ever will, it was likely a decision made by the suits after the cracked Tech Alpha.

Regardless though, it’ll come with time whether it be official or unofficial. Either people will start digging around in D2R’s code eventually or there’s a project made by someone at the Phrozen Keep that would allow porting 3D assets to original D2. They wouldn’t provide any assets themselves of course but you’d be able to use the assets from D2R that you’ve purchased. At least that’s what I understand from what they’ve said.

Wow, I wonder why they did that. That’s actually cool though, there would have been a lot of potential for a fan made PVP Arena mod.

This is an example of something I started but never finished:

It’s a reskin of The Ancients Summit. I thought I would give it to the PVP Arena guys to host tournaments for some nice change of scenery, but I didn’t want to deal with the risk of people getting banned for using it online.

If they want to sell more copies of the game, I don’t see how/why they don’t do this. This game already hit its peak hype. I think it’s safe to assume Blizzard won’t make an expansion for D2R because that would take a lot of time and effort. But by enabling TC/IP they could allow the community to continue to build hype and sell more copies.

I just had a dream I was playing a battleground on D2R. So I came here and found this. Instanced PvP would be absolutely sick.

I approve of this message even though I mainly PvM. Mainly PvM because I don’t bot or spend money for gear - stupid me right. I’d be happy to PvP with my undergeared character if other people were doing it. It looks like something I really missed out on getting into and there never seems to be a way in. PvP has become synonymous with toxic because of the woke attitudes - which is reinforced by the fact that some of the worst personalities in all of online gaming belong to that community. Probably not as bad as RoT on old school runescape though - some of those freaks are straight up evil.
There needs to be a budget league so anybody can test the waters. Not sure what the criteria would be for budget but I was thinking only single mod charms besides torch/anni.
I really want to comment about the PvP idea but I can’t do it without that being brought to the front of my mind. Perhaps not you personally, but the collective “you” have boxed people out of the only part of the game you consider worth playing.
Why should anybody care what you want? You did keep the game on life support for long enough to get a resurrection, but that doesn’t mean anything to them. You could all leave tomorrow and the game as it exists now wouldn’t change.
I feel bad that the best part of the game doesn’t get the attention it deserves, and it probably never will because most pk’ers I’ve met are huge jerks who enjoy being that.

Yeah instanced is the key word here. It makes a massive difference compared to organized community dueling.

I could easily see myself queuing up with my Barbarian all day if it had a Win/Loss tracker. I would EASILY be addicted to 1 v 1 and 8 person FFA.

Hello,

I would (potentialy) love a pvp patch but first its important to understand some things :

  1. the game isnt in a particulary healty spot pvp wise. The removal of wsg made stunlock too strong, and then 2.4 patch made stunlock too weak (non existant, to be precise). A middle ground needs to be found because currently defensive and boring players are too favored, as you are not rewarded enough when you catch them with a stomp.

  2. In door Arena wouldnt work well. You need a lot of free space to pvp correctly, due to the way it works. And when i say free space, i mean no excessive amount of obstacle (pilar, wall etc). Thats a big part of why PvP is played in the blood moor. PvP in Diablo 2 is about moving really fast, being quick with the namelock and having proper lock manipulation, not about running on foot in small, narrows area.
Its even more important when you play team vs team.

  3. You dont want a too big arena either (the side of an entire map is obviously too much) as it favors defensive play.

  4. You have to limitate all sort of factor for a queue system to have a somewhat convincing experience : some spells have to be desactivated (hello slow missile), same for max res / absorb that need to be adjusted (probably set up the thing so you can reduce the dmg of a character by more than a certain treshold, excepted with bone armor / cyclone armor / energy shield). You probably have to give information to each dueler before the duel start to allow them adapting their gear.

There would be A LOT to talk about and to adjust before having that working well. And to be frank, i just dont think blizzard knows well enough their game to manage that, so im quite sceptical about the whole thing

Bring us 8 v 8 team deathmatch!
Bring us 8 v 8 team objective!
Its almost winter, where is our Wintersday?!

The thing with PvP in D2:LoD/D2R is that there would really be no way to fairly balance the actual PvP due to certain character builds being way to over powered for PvP. That is why I think Blizzard never implemented an actual competitive PvP mode in the game. This game was designed more for PvE (Player vs Enviroment) than PvP. Enviroment includes the monsters and ranom traps you run into while exploring. Traps are everything from the poison shooters on the walls in certain areas to the exploding barrels/urns and trapped chests

thats sick man truly wish they would get on board with the pvp community
