IMO it’s time to charge GOLD for respecs and not both quest or token. Game has many amazing specs now and it will be nice to play spec based on your mood w/o fear of losing another token. Please remove artificial limits. Like I don’t want for every ladder to level Uber runner if I can respect for a day my hdin or w/e paladin spec I have and go back after its done. Same is true for zons, assasins, necro etc.
I’d like to balance this out by saying I prefer the game to have no respecs. And what they should do is simply have a grace period of 1 hour where you can redo your skill point after placing one. That way if you make an error and realize it, you can fix it before it becomes permanent.
I think character building is an important part of Diablo 2, and just making a character easily a completely new one at the click of a button takes away from the experience and pride of building one.
Imagine how rare it would be to have a perfectly built sorc – where you have to go with low strength until you got an enigma, for instance, and only then you could put a spirit monarch on, etc. It would add a new challenge and sense of pride to character building.
I’ll balance it further by standing the middle ground…
I think the current respec system is fine.
We have this option in a game and it’s LEVEL. We’re wasting time on leveling same class while we can continue to level your class with a spec of the day. Sometimes I want to have army of skeles. Sometime I want to rock with poison nova. But in both cases I have my level 9x Necro that I leveled.
I guess I’d be OK with it if it costs 3,490,000 gold.
If you can reach level 99, you’ve earned it.
respec is already very easy to achieve, we don’t need it easier.
I wouldn’t be opposed to this, but I think the current system is fine as is. Honestly I still haven’t fully embraced the respec meta, since I played so much before they added it that it just seemed second nature to me to save some stat points, plan out builds, etc. but that does mean you end up progressing sub-optimally, so it’s cool they added some amount of respeccing.
I always say part the reason I want more character slots is that respecs aren’t really a feasible way to play different builds “on demand”, since even though farming more tokens is possible, it’s not really sustainable if you have a few different builds of the same class you like playing for different activities. Plus you have to store additional gear sets and this game is already pretty limited on storage depending on your playstyle.
Your suggestion alleviates one of the downsides, but still we’re left with having to store the other gear set and reassigning all the points exactly how you want them can be a pain to do often as well.
Something like D3 Wardrobe that actually stored the gear and let you “save” a configuration of stat/skill points might be cool, but I think that’s such a big change that it’s more of a “be cool in D4” than a want in D2R for me personally.
It’s a double edged sword but I like how sometimes finding a cool item inspires you to start a whole new character, whether it’s the same class or different class.
That’s how we did it back in the day before they added respecs. You’d consider remaking your entire character if you found a new item upgrade late game which threw of your stat planning (or mastery for Barbs), but it was easier if you did have all your end game gear farmed/decided on, ofc.
Yeah, but this was during an era where you could re-make a character quickly with a complete rush through then cows for a couple hours and your back.
Now with 20/40/60 it takes a bit longer, yes there is speed running.
I enjoy the new character playthrough, but I would not sign off on having to make 3 sorcs per ladder season just to re-spec when im bored of the current build or if I find something new.
The current system is fine, 3 freebies, then work for it a bit.
There is certainly ZERO reason to make it easier.
There should be a way to farm a socket quest.
Its such a waste of time rushing mules to socket an item.
Make respec cost gold and token to punch the socket. Everyone will be happy with this. No Need to rush mules on second account only for socket quest.
Respecs are something that were introduced very late in D2’s history. Personally, I think respecs are a healthy part of the game to have. However, I am not a fan of the idea of being able to just farm infinite tokens and respec whenever my mood changes. Regardless, the system that is in place works. If you want a respec after your Akara ones are used up, you have to earn it by farming the essences and making tokens. It really doesn’t need to be easier.
Fact. When 1.10 with new synergies was introduced my 2x lvl99 Zon and lvl99 Barb became mules since option to respec wasn’t even given to us. Toxic Bill Roper was spamming his famous “works as intended” on outcry.
Noooo i can only catch up selling tokens… 5 of them go for a vex now days.
