I have a Collossus Voulge with Insight runeword which has +5 All attributes and requires 210 Strength on my merc. I have to put a chest with +25 str on Merc so he could equip the weapon.
As you can see on the video, merc has 236 of strength with both weapon and chest equiped. And if I take off the chest armor, str will decrease for 30: 25 chest and 5 from weapon.
From me perspective, there should remain 236-25=211 str without chest armor and weapon should work.

231-25=206 Merc can’t get the bonus +5 from the weapon because he can’t use it.
But the weapon is already equiped and giving him +5.
I agree, I can’t equip weapon with +5 str having only 206 str. But I had 236 with the chest armor and weapon. I should loose only 25 str when taking off the chest armor.
The weapon cannot give +5 as your merc needs to have at least 210 without the weapon. Without the armor he’s below 210. Not sure how else to explain. He had 236 with armor because he’s able to wear the weapon with the armor. Without the armor he can’t equip the weapon hence why he can’t get ant bonuses from it.
