Bug Report 1
When launching the older version of D2R (not upgraded to Warlock) in full-screen mode on a monitor with a 1280x1024 resolution, the display consistently shows only about half the screen upon the initial launch. While the game loads correctly if I quit and restart it, this issue occurs every single time, making the startup process a hassle.
Bug Report 2
In the older version of D2R (not upgraded to Warlock), while in the Rogue Encampment (Act 1), if I rapidly drop all items from my inventory and character slots onto the ground and then immediately leave the game room, a “Fatal Error” window appears and the game crashes.
I sometimes do this—dropping items on the ground when my inventory is full before deleting a character and creating a new one to retrieve the items—but this crash happens with high frequency, so I would like it to be fixed.
Grow out of your D2 / LoD limitations. D2R has a shared stash for this.
I am one of the users who hasn’t yet upgraded Diablo II: Resurrected to Warlock;
You keep mentioning “D2/LoD,” but that refers to the original Diablo II released back in 2000—aren’t you severely mistaken about which version is which?
Also, regarding the issue where the game crashes when you drop a large number of items on the ground—to avoid putting them in the shared stash while remaking a character—and then exit the session: that will likely happen in Warlock too.
If it occurs in both the older D2R and the new D2R-Warlock, then the specific version doesn’t matter.
Old habbits die hard but at least .. try. It saves you the stress of having to be back in the game you dropped stuff in before the servers kills it.
Regarding your drop stuff game crash problem .. never heard or experienced it. Can’t help you here.
To be honest, the issue where dropping items causes a crash has definitely existed since the days of the original Diablo II (released in 2000). If you set up a private game using two legitimate copies of the software and two PCs, position two characters simultaneously in front of the Act 1 stash, and drop every item those characters are carrying right there, either the character dropping the items—or the other character who didn’t drop anything—gets kicked out of the game.
Sometimes, both characters get kicked out at the same time.
The probability of this happening is around 10%.
In this specific instance, the character dropping items in front of the Act 1 town stash suffered a forced game termination, while the other character—who hadn’t dropped anything—remained safely in the Act 5 town without issue.
The bug occurs because the game program and server fail to properly distinguish between two different accounts sharing the same IP address; this leads to a communication error that causes one of the clients to crash.
Having experienced this many times before, I usually keep the non-dropping character safe in Harrogath (Act 5).
This time, the character in Act 5 didn’t crash, so I was able to successfully retrieve the items without loss; however, I really wish they would fix the issue that causes the game program to crash like this.
Then again, I might be the only one playing by controlling two characters across two PCs, so it is admittedly a rare case.
And yet, this glitch persisted unnoticed by anyone right up until today, August 2026. I thought it might have been resolved when the game was revamped into Diablo II: Resurrected (D2R) in 2019 and the program structure changed, but it turned out it hadn’t been fixed.
Anyone with the setup to control two characters simultaneously across two PCs can see this for themselves. While the “correct” approach is to move important items to other characters via the shared stash, the shared stash eventually runs out of space when you’re dealing with the infinite accumulation of items that happens during gameplay.
Well, since Blizzard isn’t going to fix it, I suppose I’ll just have to accept it as a “feature”—much like the resolution issues.
Over the decades i had such private games with way more than 2 PC’s on the same internet connection and never - repeat: NEVER! - experienced this.
The only way we were able to force a drop was when some or all those PC’s used characters from the same account - which AFAIR should no longer be possible with D2R.
I purchased two retail copies of D2R and created two separate accounts. When I try to drop all items—both from the stash and the character’s inventory—onto the ground in the Act 1 town square (moving the mouse at a normal speed), the game either kicks me out of the session or crashes completely the moment I finish dropping the items from the second character.
A Windows error dialog appears asking if I want to send an error report to Blizzard, and I do send it.
I am connecting from Japan, and this issue occurs with a probability of roughly one in several tens of attempts.
I connect exclusively via wired LAN; I never use wireless LAN to play D2R.
Next time the error appears, I will post a screenshot here.
