It reduces the nodrop chance, which means more items drop, especially from trash monsters. If there’s virtually no difference in killing speed versus /p1 because your build is OP for Nightmare, then you net more drops in the same time frame.
More often than not, I drop high runes from killing random trash monsters, even playing solo @ /p1.
I agree with all of this, it is the point of /p8 after all. How it negatively impacts the game is where the argument loses me. Farming nightmare to complete a viable hell build is a very small section of the game.
It would make the weaker class builds even more worthless. Nobody would play them. The only way to fix that (with a no-nerf policy anyway) would be to buff them up, thus taking one more step in the power creep cycle. Look at D3 for an example of that process over time.
This is conjecture. Players focused on farming weren’t playing weaker builds, and weaker builds are played out of playstyle interest, not performance. Farming is always done on the most efficient builds when time efficiency is the goal. This isn’t much a point.
If /px comes to the game, then playing /players 7/8 will be the top goal to achieve, and players of these builds for interest will then complain about them not being capable of playing “normally”.
The ladder would be completely dominated by the OP builds, moreso than they are now. And those that care about the ladder rankings will be first in line to complain about it.

This is just how D2 shakes out no matter what parameters to put on players. The ladder race is going to favor the best builds. I don’t see the clear connection to this player behavior and the existence or non existence of /p8.

Wish we could get away from using d2jsp, participating or not participating, as a way to discredit everything someone says. The only legit gripe is that d2jsp soils fresh ladders with old currency.
D2jsp would be great if the currency would reset with the ladders. Otherwise i see it as cheating
