Is there a config file to force resolution change on PC?

It is wild to me that both Diablo 2: Resurrected and Diablo 4 will not allow you to change the resolution. There is a slider for resolution scaling but it DOES NOT work near as effectively as actually changing the resolution.

Both games force you to run the game at whatever you have your OS resolution set to. In my case its usually 1920x1200p. Both games run like crap, regardless of what settings I have… I can ram that slider down as far it will go, set everything to low, disable everything that costs performance and enable anything that helps with performance… Runs like trash. If I set my OS down to 1280x800… I magically get 60 fps in both games and have smooth playing experiences in both. There NEEDs to be a way in game to force the game to run at lower resolutions. And yes I’m aware you can play in windowed mode at lower resolutions, but who on earth likes to play outside of a fullscreen experience?

Until then, is there a way to do this with config files so I dont have to manually change change my OS resolution everytime I want to play one of these games?

Can’t you just grab the edges of the window and drag to make the window larger?

I can’t confirm on windows cause I play on steam deck, but I just went into desktop mode and tried this, and it works. Can make the window any size I want.
Desktop resolution is 1920x1080, game resolution is 1280x720.

Edit: when I go into the game options, game resolution becomes whatever I drag the window to be. Currently 1558x1007. Pretty cool. But unfortunately wouldnt work cause its increase the res.

There are screen resolution programs you can try, which create a new shortcut for your game that will force windows to change resolutions when the app is launched, and force back when it is exited.
