Is necromancer the worst multiplayer class?

I don’t play online much, so correct me if I’m wrong,
But I was watching my bud play his hammerdin in a p8 game, Baal throne room. As soon as the waves come out they’re just beaten to hell by blizzards, volcanoes, mosaic screen garbage, hammers etc…

And then I saw a necromancer off to the side, shooting a couple bone spears. He shot maybe 5 before everything was dead.

It was kind of pathetic lol. And don’t get me wrong, necromancer is my favourite class, but it really seems left behind in multiplayer.

So maybe that’s a bad build. Think of a poison build.
By the time you get a lower resist off, you might get through one poison nova, before everything is dead.

Plus, because of the poison bug, with all the damage the mobs are taking, the poison is severely interrupted.

And if there’s another poison necro, you’re just overwriting eachother, and doing no extra damage lol.

And summon… probably even slower, but at least better for the act bosses.

TLDR: is the necromancer the least contributing class in multiplayer?

First, don’t try to do more than is necessary. If you are a summoner, your minions will absorb damage in baal runs.
The two skills you need to strengthen are applying a curse and using corpse explosion.

Which curse to use, you normally intuit this, but Lower resist is the first on the list, Decrepify is another great option as 50% slow helps everyone. Amplify damage and Life tap help massive groups of melee characters. Dim Vision is also another excellent choice to help with the group’s defense, but most necromancers don’t put points on it, as it is strictly defensive.

And there is a body left on the ground, explode as this area damage is not negligible, even if it is less than that of other classes.

This is really good advice.

aim to enhance other classes damage or survivability, and capitalize on a resource most of them don’t have access to: corpses.

naw, i’ll take a necro on my side before any assasin. necros are an extremely versatile and powerful friend to have, if their curses are used properly with their teammates they add great power.

amp / decrip for a melee. lower resist for casters and everything is melting. corpse explosion to finish things off and honestly, scary on it’s on.

sure necros don’t have the raw firepower other classes do, but they are by far one of the best people to have by your side.

Necro is a great class. It does have a hard time fitting into the end game though. Beyond players 5, summons are really just target dummies, they certainly aren’t going to kill anything on their own, even with you and your merc’s support. even corpse explosion loses its effectiveness, as it’s damage is calculated off the monster’s base health, NOT the adjusted heath with higher player difficulty.

Now solo, up to players 3 or so, Necro’s are unrestricted in what they can do(less maggot lair) they arent bothered by monster immunities, and you can go through hell with basically no equipment, just a modest insight on a act 2 merc and your golden(he does need life leech and crushing blow when you get it).

I still feel Summoners need a boost, because hammerdins and mosaic exist.

They have curses and destroy/use corpses?

While leveling up and rushing, necros are the best to have around imo. Bone wall up baals room, etc. minions are taking all the damage for the party in tal runs. I love em.

Of course after leveling, they’re kind of pointless unless you have a poison necro. Then they’re badasses again.

No way…he has infinite minions, if you use the proper revives it is very powerful, bone prison and wall which can be so helpful in group progression, corpse explosion is one of the most powerful PvM skills and curses alone are an unbelievable asset…

If you’re comparing end game PvM players with the best items, then yes necros don’t play as well as other cookie cutter chars but neither do many other builds…don’t even try bone spells, it is strictly for PvP…

Necros are curse bots in multiplayer, they also shine clearing leftovers with CE. With CTA in everyone’s 2nd weapon slot, barbs are equally degraded as stun/bo bots with 0 impact damagewise.

Both are great classes for the group but you don’t want more than 1 of each in your game.

Necro are good for multiplayer.

I had a summon Necro, but also put one point in Lower Resist. When we were doing baal runs, I was only casting Lower Resit and the clear time was significantly better.
I wasn’t casting anything else, I was there only for that curse and other players were very happy about it.

Necromancer is my main character(bone necro)
Yea they are left behind with damage. They will not clear as fast as hammer or blizzard (not considering mosaic as this item is a mistake). Despite what people here write it is bad character for players 8. You need best possible gear for efficient p5 farming.
Buuut - necro are very good supports they are very safe and they dont care about immunes. Still worth playing him.

I find the CE damage to be quite negligible in 8 player games . Much like crushing blow, those mechanics do not scale well into multiplayer games (unlike static field ).

Necromancers are great support party members (have you seen the Dim Vision curse work its magic in a hardcore playthrough?) until everyone has gear, can apply their own curses, and no longer needs to hide behind minions.

if you are runing 5 player ++, no enigma, not using CE, merc low gear. yes it worst

Just put decripify on baal. It’s the only job you have really.
If non teleporters are crying, just close off the entrance to baal with 7000 bonewalls.
