Is it true maps don't change in offline single player?

Is it true that if you play offline single player the dungeon floor plans do not change?

correct, until you switch difficulties which will then reset everything.

but then it will stay again until you change again? So once I’m in Hell its permanently the same?

if you’re playing in hell and you clear the game, exit out and come back yes the maps are the same.

if you go to nightmare and then come back to hell, it will be new maps.

wow. I wish I had known that.

it is useful if you prefer single player. some players will keep making new instances until they get a desired map. useful but i still much prefer multiplayer

In single player, I don’t mind that maps don’t change, but I’d like it if the past revealed parts carrying over was optional. When I’m farming, the unrevealed map is nice to see where I haven’t been.

If you want to clear the maps and keep the same map layout, you can manually delete the charname.ma# files, as these are what store the revealed map data for each act.

I have yet to actually play with someone else. I have traded a bit. I don’t think I could keep up. For starters I don’t teleport at all.

The ffa loot situation doesn’t appeal to me either.

eh most of my characters don’t teleport. i walk through wsk, chaos, trav, cows & pits with my disco group everyday. we share loot together depending on who needs what

Especially for cows. You can sometimes just get lost with how uniform in design it is ><;

Yeah, only reason I have Online is for a group I play with from D3 and people from work who play D2R. If it wasn’t for those groups I’d probably be full-time SP. Multiplayer has benefits but I honestly just prefer setting my own pacing.

I usually do two passes through cows with my sorc… One pass close to the outer edge of the map and one close to the inside island… It’s usually enough to clear. There are usually a few stragglers, but I ain’t got time for them!

Sometimes I’ll zigzag from outer to inner as I’m clearing just to change it up a bit.

I was thinking of possible ways to determine who gets high value loot.

“Everyone picks a number between 1 and 5000. Person closest to the gold drop of the next mob/chest wins”

they should have a /roll dice like in WoW.

ya I agree could be useful but I like that D2 feels more like a sandbox this way, it is up to the players to agree on those things. I think not having all those things like dice roll, buff bar, ploot, etc makes the game feel more doom & gloom as opposed to D3 where things such as buff bar & ploot makes it feel more WoW-like and less dark and imposing as D2. and FFA loot where everyone is trying to grab the loot at the same time has its own excitement…sucks when you don’t get a good drop but boy it feels great when you do get it.

There is also a command-line argument.

-resetofflinemaps

I believe this makes offline single-player maps behave like multiplayer maps; resetting after every game.

Tested and working with bnet launcher arguments?

You mean the “Additional command line arguments” in the launcher Game Settings, right?

Yes. But like many of the other arguments, it only affects offline characters.

Edit: Correction: “many” is an overstatement. I was only really referring to the two others that I’ve tested.

-players X (where x = 2-8)
-enablerespec (which enables unlimited respecs without having to farm the Hell bosses for Essences to make Tokens of Absolution)
