Is it my imagination? Or, do items that drop disappear?

It’s weird, I hear things like gems, rings, amulets, armour, and other items have fallen, yet what is on the ground as loot may be a pot or a bushel of arrows/bolts. Something different than the common sound used for a particular item’s drop sound.

Must be your imagination, never had that problem

I’ve noticed this too

I could have sworn I heard a rune drop earlier on like that but there was nothing on the ground.

These types of things are to be expected when you try to “wing it” on 2 decade old database and net code in todays gaming environment.

Well, i will say this.

First, i love that D2r has more depthful audio control. I instantly dropped all sounds to half, except drop sounds.

Having said that, i noticed, i could hear a gem hit the floor, where my buddy was, over 4 or 5 (roughly) screens away in the pit. Just make sure you look around if you are sure you heard that precious sound.

I’ve had some disappear as well. I saw a grey polearm drop. I was going to pick it up after clearing out some mobs - I was doing cows. When I went back to it a couple minutes later, it was gone.

Ground timers:

  • 10 minutes: Gold, Key, Potion, Scroll, Tome, and Ammo (Arrows, Bolts).

  • 10 minutes: Any Armor and Weapon of quality < magic, regardless if flagged as ‘‘Ethereal’’, ‘‘Socketed’’ or not, and Rune Words.

  • 10 minutes: Pandemonium artifacts (Key of Terror/Hate/Destruction, Mephisto’s Brain, Diablo’s Horn, Baal’s Eye).

  • 10 minutes: Essence (4 flavours) and Token of Absolution (these are new items from Patch 1.13x).

  • 20 minutes: Magic Items, Gems and Runes.

  • 30 minutes: Rare, Set, Unique and Crafted Items.

Once the item has been on the ground that long, it disappears. Picking it up and dropping back on the ground resets the timer.

Ah. I will keep that in mind as my skellies sometimes kill monsters at a distance. Thanks!

I had headphones on and I was sure it was a rune I spent a few mins trying to recreate the sound with what I was doing and could not.

I had an involuntary tin foil hat moment while I continued on thinking maybe a rune had dropped but I couldn’t see it or had missed it somehow lol

This maximum like sharing restriction sucks. There are peeps sharing good ideas or when wishing to support their contentions and I get hit with a you have spent your like quota. Sheesh.

Well, i have no evidence that i have missed items, because of course, i never ‘got / saw’ the items that i’m 100% sure i have missed over the years. I just know its a fact. I play fast, if i don’t see them on the fly by, i’m prolly already way to far past.

I have encountered this as well, I was sitting there mindlessly farming away and I heard that familiar sploot of a rune smacking the stone I spend a good few minutes going over the ground with a fine tooth comb, but never found it…

chalked it up to just listening to so many sounds for so long that my mind just started fabricating its own sounds. :man_shrugging:

from google:

Items despawn depending on their quality: Regular items and gold disappear after exactly 10 minutes. Magic items will disappear after 20 minutes. Rare, Set, Crafted, and Unique items will disappear after lying on the ground for 30 minutes .

Both Redacted and Jedi are absolutely correct though. But in this case, im guessing most of you were looking around fairly quickly after the sound, except the one guy mentioned a white , ten minutes or so, that one fits.

Yeh I was hanging around searching the entire area in the end I decided it was a sound effect caused by something I did that sounded very similar.

^ Yes, this. It could be the imagination during some moments. When we finally get out of that queue, a part of our brains must be wound up from waiting for so long. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I’ve heard gem drop sounds but haven’t found a gem in the area multiple times. It’s possible that it was off screen, but it’s happened dozens of times now and I’ve been wondering whether there are audio bugs.

It’s possible i suppose. I couldn’t say one way or the other, an audio bug is definitely a ‘possibilty’.

Sure it was only a few? White / socketed items dissapear after only 10-15mins if im not mistaken.

This is a rediculous change this never used to happen they need to remove this crappy add!!! It causes more problems then its worth
