I had a lot Hell Andy runs with 407% mf and was pretty OK with the drops.
But when I decided to put on my gull dagger and got my mf up to 457%, Andy dropped only blues and a lot less rares some twenty times in a row. Then I was pissed and switched to my damage gear, with only 200% mf, Andy dropped Vipermagi and some other uniques in two runs.
Its RNG, you will see real effect of these MF differences in hundreds of runs.
To answer your question, yes more mf=better
But dont over do it or your kill speed will suffer.
In general more MF is always better but, Bosses have a high chance of dropping Magic+ items already.
That being said, there seems to be some anecdotal evidence that there is a sweet spot for bosses in regards to MF.
350-400 MF seems to net you some decent returns but, if you’re farming white mobs like cows for instance, then the higher MF the better but never sacrifice kill speed for MF.
Ultimately MF amount is very circumstantial but, again in general more is always better unless you’re sacrificing kill speed.
Speed > MF every time.
Thanks. I guess it was just bad luck then.
If you are strictly killing single boss over and over, like Meph or Andy, then yes, more MF is always better. If you are clearing areas, running multiple bosses, etc, then you want to focus more on clear speed than MF. Around 300 MF in that scenario should be what you aim for.
i just drop all my mf
and i just find 10 min after a Shaftstop and a 198% Buriza-Do Kyanon
i just kill so much faster
i start to be boring of mf gear what a waste of currency
The more I play the more I drop the mf for kill speed, regardless of boss farming or area clear.
Most rare and unique are junk anyway. I’d rather kill faster for possible runes.
Theoretically you want less MF if you’re rune hunting because they’re considered normal items.
For puck sake
More mf is ALWAYS better as long as you do not slow in killing speed and you are not looking for a base white item, MF does NOT change anything for runes.
From Diablo Wiki: No, the more MF you have the better, always, in terms of getting higher quality items. 1000% will find more Uniques, over time, than 900%, and far far more than 300% or 200%. The balance comes in how long it takes you. If you can do an item finding run in 10 minutes with 1000% MF, and the same run in 3 minutes with 500% MF, it’s probably better to go faster, since you could do the same run 3x, which would be better odds for good equipment over all.
This is wrong, you can read on Diablo wiki : Magic Find % does not make : More or less Runes drop. MF has no effect either way.
magic find has no effect on runes/gems.
first the item drops and the game determines what the base item is AND THEN the game decides if it’s unique>set>rare>magic>white. Since runes don’t have magic/rare/unique variants it will always just be a rune.
and magic find doesn’t effect what base items drop, if a rune would drop, magic find will not turn that rune into a SoJ.
just linking the wowhead article because I’m lazy and it’s the first thing that popped up on google.
To me it’s not a question of whether higher mf is better or not, but by how much is it better. And for most characters, you’re going to be completely fine running with whatever MF you have incidentally (50-100mf), you’re also going to be completely fine on dedicated MF characters with 150-300mf. Anything more than 300 MF I begin to question how much the juice is really worth the squeeze, so to speak. While it’s technically “better to have more MF” past 300 it’s by such a truly small margin that the choices you’ll have to make/sacrifice to get 400, 500, 600+ MF, are really only for the most niche builds and hardcore of players/mfers. If you’re part of the 99%, then be happy with 0-300mf, it’s really all you’ll ever need
Higher MF will always garner better drops on average (though with diminishing returns) but asking if higher mf is always better is a hard one.
Drop chance to kill speed should obviously always factor in, if you get 50% better drop chance with certain gear but kill 1/2 as fast you effectively give up 50% of your drops going for the mf setup over just killing twice as many things (100%+50%=150% drop rate with mf and 100%+100%=200% with killing twice as many mobs).
The balance that everyone must maintain in the game is location, dps, MF, and game creation cooldown.
balance those 4 things properly to play optimally.
faster kill is better mean more chance to have rune
and the end game and economie are rune and ethereal item
with no mf you will find more ethereal , now i just find 1 6 socket ethereal Ghost Spear
No… They are in special category. MF has no effect on rune drops.
As long as you’re still as fast as possible more MF is always better. You want as much MF as you can get while maintaining the fastest speed you can get.
No.
If you can only do 5 mf runs within 10 hours because you have 90000% mf, you’ll be worse off than someone with 200% that can do 10,000 runs in 10 hours.
Numbers exaggerated obviously.
200- 400 magic find is good, killing speed is more important
Golden rule in D2 farming: Kills speed > all. It’s better to kill things 2x faster than stack magic find and kill 2x slower. You will get more shots at loot overall killing faster.
Some builds can stack godly amounts of MF and still kill very fast (hello Sorc!), most can only handle 200-400 MF range, which is fine as that is the sweet spot for the biggest increase to Uniques / Sets drop chances.
