Is Diablo 2 Resurrected FUN and still getting regular content updates/seasons?

I just wanted to check the general impression of this game before I may give it another try. I used to love D2 but after being disappointed by Diablo 4 I just don’t want to have my time burnt again.

What’s the general impression of this game right now? Is there an active end game or maybe even PVP scene like old Diablo 2? I did notice D2R had more viewers on Twitch than D4 but I honestly expected this. I called D4 out for being an unfun time waster with no end game in June and was told how wrong I was by the whiteknight types. Now the same people who defended D4 vehemently are gone or became chronic complainers on their dead forums. I stopped posting there a month or so ago as it is increasing clear to me how improvements are going to go with D4 (turtle pace if at all).

I was going to put some time into D3 but D4 was so unfun and based on D3 that I guess it ruined it for me. If I had to pick a Diablo game to play it would be D2R but just wanted some honest feedback about the state of the game before I consider diving back in.

Thanks!

Content wise, the game is done.

Quality of Life, character/item balancing on the other hand… There’s plenty that could be done.

The upcoming Ladder season 5 is just a reset… No changes this time. (Highly speculated the reason for no updates in D2:R for this ladder is because of them trying to calm the raging D4mpsterfire)

However, just because they don’t update the game for one season doesn’t mean it’s not a good game and not worth a replay. The original game has been going since 2010 without any gameplay updates, people still play it.

Yes and no, its still great and fun to play diablo 2. Seasonal content is lacking and this season we got nothing. Online problems are still same. Botters plaguing market.

From perspective of lod player, game received updates(changes/content), plenty of decent ones, some which are not that popular. But its still far better game than D2lod was.

I think devs could elevale the game even more will carefully picked changes, but they are busy with d4 i guess. Or not actualy capable of doing changes without deeep understanding of d2 so they rather dont do it at all anymore.

The game will always be fun base game was good enough to keep me playing for over 20 years.
Content wise roll the dice could be good could be bad.

They introduced Terror zones which are the new baalruns. But the zone that converts into a terror zone switches by the hour and only a few are really good. So after the majority of lvling enthusiasts are 94+, you won’t find many baalruns and only terror zone runs when decent or good terror zones are active.

Botters are flooding the market, so don’t expect a better economy than LoD.

PvP is about the same as LoD, but you can now join any region, so you have a bigger possible pool of players. But PvP got a few changes in D2R.

Overall the game is still fun, but they made a lot of bad decisions in D2R too.

On the PvP, a lot of hardcore PvP players are not very happy with the D2R dev team’s changes, including how they made FHR work. So take that as you will. This new team is largely talentless and doesn’t seem to understand what made D2 so successful or fun to begin with, so relying on them to make any worthwhile changes to the game is a fool’s errand. So far, the changes they’ve made have been meh or disappointing at best. Honestly, THE LESS they touch this game, the better. As they clearly don’t have the talent to do it well. RIP Blizz North.
